It's all about a good launch but Oh my gosh what these dragvideos are boring. Who really drive these cars like this, not many, that's for sure.
My ST is coming with launch control. I'll try it once or twice but thats about it.

Says the guy who posted more M5board videos than this whole forum combined :D

On a side note, it will be interesting to see what the GT63s-4 door can do. It is more powerful than the E63s and M5 Competition. Will be a close race with the Panamera Turbo S.

Will be a close race with a Panamera Turbo S indeed..........weight wise that is.
But I get what you're doing so I counter with the following: it will be interesting to see these fatty Mercs E63SSS or AMG GT 4 door or whatever else they come up with against the M8 Gran Coupe later on :D

One Victor for Mercedes E 63 amg S from one hundred. Party time. Joke one side. All cars are pretty even. But I thing this was the slowest time 0-60 for a BMW m5 f90 and for e 63 amg s ever.

Always different results with the type of conditions.
The Panny Turbo S had the best start. the M5 and E63 were dead even off the line.

E63s has a higher trap speed in the quarter mile and half mile run than Panamera Turbo S or M5.

M5 0-100mph 7.55sec. 1/4mile 11.58sec @125.8mph./ 1/2Mile 18.1sec@ 152.8mph
E63s 0-100mph 7.4sec. 1/4mile 11.4sec @126.6mph./ 1/2mile 17.83sec@ 153.7mph
Panamera S 0-100mph 0-100 7.4sec. 1/4mile 11.3sec @124.9mph./ 1/2mile 17.63sec@ 151.8mph

E63s has noticeable front end lift on takeoff!
All that torque being put down so quickly. Seen this in a number of tests.

The F90 certainly doesn't cope with British asphalt and/or it's oxygen as well as it's counterparts do.
Those are numbers consistent with Autocar's previous video of the M5 vs that diesel thingy..

Especially hybrid version with around 800hp. :D
this will be totally insane the hybrid GT 73 S with 816PS will probably come in a year or 2 years. It will be as fast as a Porsche GT2 RS I reckon, 0 to 100kmh in 2.8sec and 0 to 200kmh in 8sec. Nothing with 4drs will match this thing.

Today, I was comparing the gearings of these super sedans and this is what I came up with (speeds in 7th - 9th gears are theoretical):

Table.webp

According to the table, M5 has taller gearing except for 4th & 5th gears. They have equal speed in every RPM range in 6th gear. M5 can rev up to 7200 RPM but I calculated speeds in 7000 RPM for both to be more comparable.

1 - According to press tests and drag race videos, it seems that E63 starts to catch up in speeds about 240 - 250 km/h and I think that's because in this speed range they are travelling in 6th gear and this is where higher torque of AMG engine gives it some advantage. It is also interesting that M5 has better acceleration in the first 3 gears despite having tallers ratios and considerably less torque.

2 - According to Autobild, E63 reaches 300 km/h faster than M5 (They both reaches 300 km/h in 33.0s in supertests) and that may be related to taller 7th gear and less torque of the M5. M5 has better Cw value (0.31 vs 0.32) but I'm not sure about which one has lower frontal area.

3 - In flexibility tests done by Sport Auto, it is interesting that despite having 100 nm less torque, M5 has better low end performance in any gear than E63 S. This is somehow related to the fact that M5 reaches its peak torque 700 RPM sooner and keeps it 1800 RPM longer! (750 nm @ 1800-5600 vs 850 nm @ 2500-4500). For example:

80-120 km/h in 8th = 10.0s (M5)
80-120 km/h in 8th = 11.0s (E63 S)

But:

80-160 km/h in 8th = 18.6s (M5)
80-160 km/h in 8th = 17.9s (E63 S)

M5 has better flexibility in low revs and performs better than E63 despite having a taller 8th gear. E63 S suffers from a little turbo lag in lower revs but outperforms M5 at higher revs up to 160 km/h.

In other gears, M5 has better flexibility in both low and high RPMs.

M5 has taller 7th gear:
80-160 km/h in 7th = 12.0s (M5)
80-160 km/h in 7th = 12.5s (E63 S)

Very informative thanks for sharing.

Really interesting, the funny thing in real life drives, the perception I’ve had is the E63 is better in low gears and revs, lays the power down better and in the face of those stats, I’ve not felt any lag with the E63 whereas there is noticeable lag/acceleration delay with the M5 in low speeds. Ive done multiple drives, had the M5 for a week test drive, the E63 for two separate week tests and consistently that is what I’ve found at least my feeling/perception is that.

When both cars get up to 5,000 revs the difference is the opposite, it’s like the M5 comes alive and the power is huge where the E63 doesn’t have the same surge.

I know that probably doesn’t stack up against the actual data but that was my experience.

The word maniac comes to mind
I cannot believe he is driving that fast on public back roads. A person or small animal would have been damaged goods.
This guy is super annoying to watch. More so than Shmee.

At the risk of being pelted with raw potatoes...

I really don't mind Shmee at all. And much prefer his videos to those presented by many other automotive vloggers. Especially cringe-worthy are several originating from the U.S. And despite his undeniable competence, Matthias Malmedie of Germanys' GRIP can really get on my nerves with his grimaces and shrieking.

Mr. AMG on the M5. This reviewer is better than vehicle-virgins.
More of a hands-on approach.
