3 Series BMW E92 3er Coupe: official PR text & info.

The BMW 3 series is a line of compact executive cars manufactured by the German automaker BMW since May 1975. BMW's best selling model, it is the successor to the 02 series. Since 2013, the coupé and convertible models have been marketed as the 4 Series. The M version of the 3 series, the M3, debuted with the E30 M3 in 1986.
Let me clarify the Porsche reference to straighten out some of the raised brows that I know have curved up upon reading my last post before this one in this thread. With a Porsche, when you're driving it, there's an incredible amount of feel through the steering, a firm ride, as you would experience in many a German car, but the chracter is differentl; you're driving an expensive, overengineered sportscar. As w/ a BMW you get the same level of commuinication but in an entirely different package w/ a different character. It's a skewed line yes, but in the end it comes down to personal preference, and this is mine. :t-cheers:

You know, I love the 911(993 and 997 are my favs), but the M3 does so much more for me, it's kind of like a swiss army knife, highly versatile and durable at a more than reasonable price for what you get.

I am a bit bored of the E46 M3. They're everywhere! Once the new E92 refreshment comes out I'd probably choose that over the 911 CS but will have to wait and see. That car is being built to out perform the Carrera S, it will be interesting if BMW succeeds.

Boy, its a good time to be car fan :)

Okay, here comes my impression after seeing the pics of the new 3er coupé. I wanted to wait a little to get used to the car, before I comment it.

* Disapointing front. Why didn't they keep the front from the sedan version (E90)?. I like that one much more. This one is little boring.
* The biggest problem with this car is that the rear is "too long". The shape of the car is weird.
* I'm not sure about the rear light either. They're ok.

Actually I'm happy that it turned out like this, cause they gave Audi a big chance with the A5. Cause IMO this new 3er Coupé is a step back for BMW. Long live the E46!!!

in your opinion its a step back but it doesnt mean the majority thinks so its not easy to say A5 gets big chance. Time will tell though but its not going to be easy.

Wel isn't it like this:

M3 verses Carerra
M3 CS verses Carerra S
M3 CSL verses GT3

E92 out perfoming the 911? Sorry but I can't see that happening. The M6 can't even beat the 911S. Since when has a bimmer been able to out perform a Porsche?

M3 CSL faster than GT3 but slower than GT3 RS, Z8 is faster than 996 Carrera around Nordschleife . M5 is faster than Boxster around Hockenheim. As you can see it happens sometimes ;)

Regarding M6 you know its an overweight pig compared to 997. M6 is more comfortable and more practical, there Porsche 997S cant outperform M6 :D But who said BMW were aiming for 997S when they built the car?

^^
You forgot to mention that the E46 beats the Porsche 356.:D

Regarding the CSL it gets beaten by the GT3RS which is it's main competitor in terms of weight reduction and emphasis on track performance. Anyhow think we should in the future not mention Porsche and Porsche in the same sentences. :)

BMW vs Audi? Yes
BMW vs Mercedes? Yes
BMW vs Porsche? No

The up coming GT3 is quite a beast and it will be interesting to see the gap between it and the up coming M3 CSL.

Apparently the front fenders of the new series are actually plastic, yes plastic for the ultimate driving machine. Guess there are certain things people can learn from the Americans (saturn).

I guess the 3er coupe is just a steaming pile of horse crap.

you said like it BMW never had outperformed a Porsche and I showed it was possible :D it was fun :)
More over I think that the 3er especially the E46 M3 is a wiseman Porsche. Porsche cars are in no way cheap and bimmers seem to be a good alternative. BTW are there E90/E92 M3 release date speculations, Paris show maybe?

If BMW are aiming for 911 then its not going to be easy. 3er is larger car and with a different shape and with 4 seats. M3 is always going to have weight and size against it, the only chance is to make the car more hardcore, skip luxury equippment, things that weigh. But the typical M owner dont want to make a sacrifice like that.

The best combination would be to own both a BMW and a Porsche. Over at m5board.com and members with two cars usually own a BMW together with a Porsche or they are switching car from BMW to Porsche or Porsche to BMW when they buy a new car.
I could gladly see myself owning a M5 together with a 997TT, it would be perfect combination to me.

Never said that, I just would like to know BMW fans reaction to that. Yes the plastic keeps weight down but I would think road noise is higher. Cheaper to replace body panels though in an accident.

I'm sure BMW did their homework to make sure NVH would be supressed despite the plastic panels. I'll be sure reserve my judgement for a test drive, however.

I dont care really, as long as it look good(if you can see it) and if it has a purpose.
If I remember correct 3er isnt more different from 5er so if I havent had problem before Im not going to have it now.
