BMW announces new 3 Series twin-turbo coupe

Whitby, Ontario - BMW Canada has announced that it will add a new 3 Series coupe to its lineup this Fall, powered by the world debut of a straight-six engine with twin turbochargers, high-precision fuel injection and an all-aluminum crankcase.

The 335i Coupe with a 3.0-litre twin turbo will deliver 300 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque, over a wide range of 1400 to 5000 rpm. Each small, low-inertia turbocharger will feed three cylinders and will propel the coupe from zero to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds, with an average fuel economy of 9.5 L/100 km.

The 328i Coupe will also be available with a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder magnesium/aluminum composite block engine with variable valve-lift technology, creating 230 hp and 200 lb-ft of torque. Both versions come with a six-speed manual gearbox or optional six-speed automatic transmission. The 335i coupe with optional six-speed Steptronic automatic transmission and Sport Package will also include wheel-mounted shift paddles.

BMW's xDrive all-wheel-drive system will be available for the first time on the 3 Series coupe. The coupe will be on sale in Canada in the Fall of 2006; pricing and optional equipment information will be released closer to market launch.

Woah. So hold on a minute here...

Is BMW trimming down their 3er lineup to just "328" and "335" for MY '07? Is this only for the coupe or will the sedan also be limited to 328 and 335 variants?

Would appear that the information from CarScoop was incorrect.

Osna move back to Europe :D

We are getting these Coupé models

325i (6L, 2.5 lt , 218 hp) -> 35.850 €

330i (6L, 3.0 lt, 272 hp) -> 40.100 €

330d (6L, 3.0 lt, 231 hp) -> 41.100 €

335i (6L, 3.0 lt biturbo, 306 hp) -> 43.200 €

Ah man! Somehow I just knew BMW would somehow play tough guy with their 335 pricing and North American engine selection.

Nice as the 335 sounds - €43k is an awful steep entry point; one that'll easily top $50k once you add all the extras. I was hoping to see something more in the neighborhood of €41.5k. Ovbiously they're making more room up top for a bigger, badder and more expensive M3.

I'm miffed at this. Taking the price / performance trade-off into consideration, the 330i with 272hp would be perfect, and could stand to squeek by my budget modestly optioned.

For the US, the 328 seems underpowered, and the 335 overpriced. Do we have reliable information on the '07 engine scheme for 3er sedans?

I realize that, but it also lends insight into BMW's intended pricing structure for NA. We can count on prices for the US 335 to slot in at roughly the same spot (in dollars of course), and the 328 will probably be in-between the stated 325 and 330 prices.

If the M3 will be something like this :icondrool :icondrool :bowdown: :bowdown:

Hey, thanks for posting those daani. I rather like the last two wheels, the first three don't do much for me.

If it was my car I'd probably be going with the set #5.

That engine sounds so much deeper than the regular 3.0 engine, I love it.
