I was very underwhelmed when the first photos were released, but having seen it in Geneva pretty much one week ago today, my opinions have changed, and I'm very much OVERwhelmed.

Care to explain more? Because I haven’t seen it and am in your old position.

Having seen the Concept M8 Gran Coupe in the metal, I can say it actually looks a LOT better than in the photographs. I was very underwhelmed when the first photos were released, but having seen it in Geneva pretty much one week ago today, my opinions have changed, and I'm very much OVERwhelmed.

I truly wish that BMW would get rid of the chrome bits aft of the air breather with "M8" written on it. It cheapens what is otherwise a clean, muscular side profile.

Well, for a start it doesn't look quite as green in real life. A colour which didn't help it to be honest. And I don't know WHY it looks better. It just does. Like a lot of modern BMWs, it doesn't photograph well, but the naked eye can see things the camera doesn't.

Yeah, the only downside to the F90 is the luxury car style wheels and judging by M’s history the M5 & M8 may very well share wheels.

I loved the selection the F10/F06 had, hopefully it expands with the Competition spec.

From today's BMW AG press conference: in the next 18 months we will get the whole 8er family: 8er coupe, 8er cabrio, 8er gran coupe, M8 coupe, M8 cabrio, and M8 gran coupe. 8er Coupe coming this Summer.

Over the next 18 months alone, we will be launching eight new models in the highly-profitable luxury segment. This summer, the new BMW 8 Series Coupé marks the start of a completely new model series: With the 8 Series Coupé, Convertible and Gran Coupé, as well as the three corresponding M models.

P.S.: the other two luxury models are BMW X7, and Rolls-Royce Cullinan.

That's not the point @shonguiz was making. He is asking why the M8 is being counted as a separate model to the standard 8 Series.

In simple terms. The higher the price and the status it will form under Bayerische Motoren Werke. I am expecting other manufacturers to follow this concept soon enough. I suppose some examples could be Genesis above Hyundai,Infiniti over Nissan? Lexus over Toyota maybe? But who can forget Mazda and their (failed) excursion into exclusivity with the Xedos branded cars?
