BMW Compactive Tourer - spy pics & info

Why? Honda have nothing to bring to the table for BMW. BMW have no issues whatsoever in delivering turbo engines or FWD excellence.
EnI kept saying BMW lack purchasing power compare to the bigger manufacturers, and it isn't able to spread its development cost across more model ranges, so teaming up with Honda should help to address these issues?

Does Mini have the best FWD?

Yea, like others said, I don't know if it is best, but I recently helped my sis-in-law buy one and spend some time driving it. It is a bloody awesome car to drive (besides the sucky run flats).

I´ve driven the MINI Cooper S and drives very good, but it´s basically because it´s proportions. It´s like a kart. I don´t think a FWD BMW has to drive better than a MB or an Audi just because it´s a BMW. And I don´t think the new 1er FWD will drive worse because BMW has no FWD experience (which is not true, as has benn said here).

I also drove one on a couple of occasions... I thought it was well sorted out, but I imagine like SKY speculated it's partly to do with the diminutive size and relatively powerful engine for such a small car. The funny thing is that the suspension was very harsh, especially on cobbled roads. An E92 with run flats and M package (18" wheels) was more forgiving. Funnily enough, so was the Porsche 911 :) It's always bad to extrapolate like this, but BMWs are not really known to be the most comfortable, nor are MINIs in my limited experience and customers of an MPV will surely favor comfort and practicality over roadholding in tight bends

@SKY "I don´t think a FWD BMW has to drive better than a MB or an Audi just because it´s a BMW."

I think is has to. This is one of the core values (besides design, reliability, etc.). BMW's have to have a better steering feel, be more agile (driving dynamics). Isn't this the main reason we buy a BMW in the first place?

Yesterday I drove my wifes MINI again. It is very fun to drive, despite its FWD. So should the Active Tourer.

^ It's not cos it's a mommy van. It's going to roll from side to side and be terrible to drive. If it doesn't then well done BMW.

On the other hand ... with entry-premium going FWD, the cars on RWD will enhance their premium status. So, wanting a RWD BMW will force you to buy at least a 3er. Not 1er, not 2er, not X1. 3er or something even more expensive. So RWD will really be premium. Isn't that something many of you want?

No. You really don't understand the typical BMW enthusiast do you? We want small, RWD, and lightweight. What you described are attributes wanted by people we call badge-whores.

^^ haha, LOL. Grammar police gets a piece of his own pie.

she's much more entertaining than the rants and whining in this thread.

Haha, for real.....

Well said. Unbelievable people can't quite grasp this. BMW used to be famous for small-ish lightweight cars. It's all I want.

That's spelling Klier, not grammar.

And I'll say it again. I've never said I am perfect. I'm happy to be corrected when I spell something wrong. I wasn't aware there was a difference in spelling. "Discreet" is correct but not in this context. I've learnt something today, So I'm happy!

Jesus, why do people get so offended?

We have the 2er which fulfills a good majority of that criteria , but for full satisfaction you might have to wait a little longer for the M2. Then we will have the Z3.

But I would really like something like this.

Good to hear that the Z3 is still on the table. Maybe BMW isn't completely hopeless yet. How much work has been done on it in regards to design, development, business BS, ect... In other words, how sure of a thing is it? Roughly speaking of course.

As for the Z8, I agree I would love to see something which continues that design language. I actually got a saw a Z8 a few months ago. Not only was it a Z8, but it was the uber rare Alpina Roadster. I can honestly say as good as it looks in the pictures, it looks even better in person.
