BMW Compact Sedan Concept unveiled, previews the 1-Series Sedan

Bummer about no RWD hatches but predictable. Are any of the BMW hatches going to make it to the US?

There WILL be a 2er sport hatch, which will in effect replace the 1er.

I'd wait to hear official announcements. BMW haven't yet started doing their press releases via random people on internet forums.

If the 9er is a 4 door coupe, shouldn't it be called the 8 Series? I'm not an expert in BMW naming schemes, but apparently BMW isn't either :hilarious:

Hopefully they will bring a hatch to the US. I would be so happy with the current 1er hatch. Would suit me needs perfectly. But then again I'm off topic here.

It's logical for Bmw
4 séries is a coupe with 4 door sur and the 9 séries could be a sedan with a coupe shape (joke)

Give me a break.
BMW naming scheme is iconic to the point when both Audi and MB have completely copied it over the years. With MB still changing everything around cluelessly.

Lol I'm just joking. I would say Audi > BMW > Mercedes-Benz when it comes to naming. The reason being Audi leaves the engine out of the car's name, which IMO makes things simpler.

But honestly BMW names sound better. If only they represented engine power instead of displacement (which is understandably no longer possible) in the name it would make so much sense. This way the 325i is the current 330i. Why? Because it has 250~ hp so you take the 25 of that number. 340i would be 332. Or just make it the 330, it's still close and BMW underrates power specs anyway. 320i would be 318i.

Back on topic, Mercedes is too complicated and Audi too simple. I think "three thirty" sounds cool (even in Spanish, "tres treinta" it has some awesomeness to it), "A four" sounds still cool but "C two hundred and fifty" just doesn't do it for me haha.

I see what you mean, but over here we call a 318i a THREE eighteen, and a 530i a FIVE thirty. It's perfection really.

No, we say it the same here.

What I meant with simpler is that people are not asking me if an A4 is better than an A6, but they ask if a 330i is better or bigger than a 520i or people telling me "that must be expensive" when they see a C350 but are not impressed by an E300 because they focus too much in the number, even though I always try to explain the number (or last two numbers for BMW) is just the engine size, whereas in Audi all are As, so an A6 must be superior to an A4, and it is.

But they don't. It's exactly the same as BMW and MB.

Audi have the A4.

BMW have the 3 Series.

MB have the C-Class.

Respectively, for example, we have:

A4 2.0 TDI

320d

C 200 d

But why wouldn't someone ask if an A6 2.0 is better than an A4 3.0?

You see it as someone who understands cars. People who don't find it easy to understand that A4 is the name of the car and 2.0T means something engine related, so a 3.0 sure is faster because 2 > 3.

Problems arise when you have the engine size embedded in the name of the car as BMW and Mercedes do. Audi does not do this.

People think, in my experience, that a 330i is a bigger car than a 320i, notice how I didn't said faster. They think the bigger number means a bigger body.

But why wouldn't someone ask if an A6 2.0 is better than an A4 3.0?

Because 2.0 is on the other side of the trunk lid, people easily understand it's something about the engine, not the car itself. Again that's just my experience.

I just asked my parents. Mom thinks an A4 1.8T is better than a C200. Dad thinks A4 looks like a Jetta, did not consider that outcome in my experiment :D

For the record, my favorite naming scheme is BMW's

Edit: This confusion happens more among older folks.

At least the marketing team didn't make things worse by not giving it a ridiculous name.

If bmw make a sub 1er hatch and sedan (a1 rival) FWD based and a RWD based 1er or 2er hatch, coupe, gran coupe, sedan and convertible my faith will be restored

This is so wrong on so many levels...

So many? I can think of only one, which is the FWD part. Everything else sadly looks nice, and it also looks like the have really tried to make something nice of it. But they can't with FWD proportions.

Would be a nice idea though! And what about this RWD 2er sporthatch, Betty? Where is this info coming from (I so hope it's true, and I believe I 've read similar stuff in the recent past)?

Moving on.
BMW China will soon begin the launch cycle for the new sedan and have already submitted the car via customer focus groups. So its potential on the market is very high. In a market that is evolving and devolving, the compact segment is showing growth as is the SUV segment. So it will be positioned to appeal as a youthful car in which the same strategy also works for the Active Tourer in China which at Beijing heralds the first Chinese built models for that market.

Interesting enough will be the engine options from 1.4 to the 25 xDrive. And both BMW sub brands as iPerformance with the 225e and an exclusive M Performance model with standard xDrive which will come later.
Because of its conception especially for 1 market (for now) it was interesting to see the competition take a look with some present BMW board members showing Mercedes-Benz's CEO the concept especially intriguing when media reports the A-Klasse Sedan would be like the compact sedan and be single market specific.

In China there is a market specific for this car and the prospect of owning a real BMW instead of a fake BMW badged domestic or even a much, much older BMW is going to be too great to pass up especially against younger customers on which this car will be tailor made for.

Does BMW has already informations about if this sedan has potential on the markets outside of China especially Europe and North America?
:)

Yes it could be built in a UKL+ plant. Such as Leipzig,Regensburg or even new plants in Brazil or Mexico or it could be manufactured at the Nedcar factory in the Netherlands alongside the MINI. Or even the UK? Of course that is hypothetical.
BMW do see potential in other markets that is something they won't officially deny. Especially in the US, Russia or even India. The car has also been developed for other global markets should the need arise.
For now though its specifically for China.
