I hope they have buttons.I absolutely love it. Super futuristic yet with subtle retro feel. Hope all the designs elements translates to the production version.
I hope they have buttons.
Please BMW. For the love of all that his holy.
That's 14 presentations left for the rest of 2024, of those, at least 10 strong novelties and I thought it would be a boring year
Is there a video of the UI?They'll be sparse.
BUT.......you probably didn't look at how the UI works. Seems far superior to any version of iDrive ever.
I'm not hating or something , but I have a genuine question: What is with this "please give me at least climate buttons" in the late years?I hope they have buttons.
Please BMW. For the love of all that his holy.
Anything that the driver needs to be able to do should be done via physical buttons simply for the sake of safety. If it's illegal to be tippity tappity on your phone, what's the difference if you're doing the same shit on a touch screen infotainment display? There isn't. It takes too much attention from the driver and it's just as dangerous.BMW looks like waited to see the blood bath , and went full power on this
I'm not hating or something , but I have a genuine question: What is with this "please give me at least climate buttons" in the late years?
I mean , why do you need it so much?
I feel that people that touch the climate settings so much , on a daily basis , don't know how to use a climate in 2024 . And by that , I mean AUTO functions
I personally have less than 20% known people that use the AUTO function.
I personally never touch the climate temperature ( that is the only thing I think I change , but very very rare ) . The ventilation , I think I have more than 10 years I have never used it.
Do you really change that temperature that often? Because if you don't use the AUTO function , yes , it's very annoying to keep adjusting the ventilation & temperature ...BUT WHY???
We are in 2024. We have AUTO CLIMATE...That is why we paid extra for , and became standard in almost any car right now.
It's the same thing with mirror adjustment...How often do you change your position , so that you would need hard buttons for it?
PS: I also drive a Touareg , and the climate buttons are brand new... ( not a last gen version , and I have this car for years ) . Because the climate stays on 22 AUTO...winter/ summer / does not matter...
Is there a video of the UI?
Yea , a little subjective answer , and not what I asked for.Anything that the driver needs to be able to do should be done via physical buttons simply for the sake of safety. If it's illegal to be tippity tappity on your phone, what's the difference if you're doing the same shit on a touch screen infotainment display? There isn't. Also it's just overall a better user experience to turn heated/ventilated seats and climate controls using well positioned tactile buttons, rather than having to go through a touchscreen menu. Muscle memory goes a long way.
Additionally stuff like skip-track, raise/lower volume using physical buttons is a lot safer than having to again scroll through menus.
Drive selection modes, again should be buttons.
As for frequency of using climate controls? I have family who like different temperatures and they keep fiddling with stuff, and I like to change things back on the go.
For me it's more about user experience, which is of course subjective. Buttons, dials, knobs, switches feel nicer to use without requiring me to look at things or menu jump.Yea , a little subjective answer , and not what I asked for.
1. "safety"....If changing the climate temperature is considered a safety issue , I guess I have my answer for why the coolant bottle has a "don't drink it" written on it...
2. "much more attention"....Come on man...It's right in front of you.
People who complain about this are also people who complained about removing the buttons from phones...And here we are...
3.If your family wants a different temperature , they can change it. Any car has dual climate ( at least ) in 2024. (no safety issues )
If your family drives the car , they will adjust it when they will climb in the car ( no safety issues )
If they don't adjust it while climbing the car , they can adjust it at the first stop light ( no safety issues )
If that car that has only screens and no buttons , I'm pretty sure that car has also a MEMORY for each driver ( driver profile / etc ) .
I have in the Tesla . Temperature , seat , mirrors , you name it. All with each driver ( detected by the phone ) . I am pretty sure any modern car has driver profiles ( at least cars with all-screen infotainment )
If your car does not have dual climate , and "they keep fiddling with temperature and stuff" , that is a hazard by itself , either hardware or touch buttons for climate change...
Any other variations you have there?
I only see one : People don't use AUTO. And that is THAT person's problem with adapting to a 50years old tech....AUTO-CLIMATE
We're getting nowere. For me it's more about user experience, which is of course subjective. Buttons, dials, knobs, switches feel nicer to use without requiring me to look at things or menu jump.
The difference between a cheap interior and a high quality interior beyond fit and finish, is also tactile feedback. Notice the Rolls and Bentley's all have amazing metal buttons and dials that all feel lovely and premium to use.
Phones? Yeah they're all touch screen, but that's a whataboutism and not relevant to cars. Cars aren't phones.
Objectively you're not allowed to look at your phone while driving because it's a distraction, but looking at a giant phone that's built into your dashboard isn't a distraction? Even for something as basic as changing the temperature or the direction of the air vents or skipping to the next track of your favourite song, is safer with a button that you don't need to look at, than navigating through a touch menu that you need to look at.
Yeah auto climate. Great. But what's wrong with just having a dial that you can twist to change the temp up or down? What's wrong with having an "Auto climate" button that you can press to turn it on or off? Sometimes you want to make these changes while you're on the move and not stationary, and when you do it's easier to do it via some physical buttons. This is just the fundamentals of ergonomics.
Then there's the element of redundancy. What if the screen breaks or the software bugs out. No more being able to skip tracks, lower volume, change temperature until it's fixed?
There's also the element of how disgusting touch screens look after they've been poked with greasy fingers.
I'm not talking about loading the dashboard up with a million buttons for the sake of it. Just have a few key ones for frequently used things and then bury the rest of the less frequently used stuff in the screen.
No buttons looks 'minimalist' I guess, but I don't think the functionality is actually any better than having some physical input device to help you navigate the menus.
I suppose we can agree to disagree though.
Apparently, the new 3er with ICE will have a similar design both for the exterior and the interior.Tell me one thing. Will this "Neue Klasse" design be used in ICE cars or only electric?
The thing I'm looking for is exactly what you said. A middleground option, where core functions are buttons and the advanced stuff isn't. We're not really that far in disagreementWe're getting nowere.
Be it your way. You hate this trend. You , and many others.
I'm on the middle side. Yes , 2-4 high quality CNC machined aluminium knobs for climate and volume would not be bad , but I don't mind touchscreen either ( I'm a tech geek )
As long as the volume button remains a hardware button , I'm ok with everything else.
Due to the reasons above: I use all my cars functions. I don't buy cars with functions just for the value or brag.
This includes auto-pilot , auto wipers , auto headlights (by the way , a few years ago there was a hate towards this ; the removal of 0 lights button in any car ) , and especially , auto climate.
Back on the first topic , GG BMW. I'm a fan of what you do right now.
This concept is awesome , with all it's buttonless features
The way they talk about it. Is similar to the ICE MINI how it blends with the Electric model.Apparently, the new 3er with ICE will have a similar design both for the exterior and the interior.
Uhh, so minimum investment and same car with changed front and rear ends to look similar to the NK?The way they talk about it. Is similar to the ICE MINI how it blends with the Electric model.
The 1 and 2 Gran Coupe due later this year will be the first BMW representation of a new model on an existing model even though to you and me it’s more like a Life Cycle Impulse.
There's no way. A 3er based on the F70 would be fwd no?Uhh, so minimum investment and same car with changed front and rear ends to look similar to the NK?
If the F70 1er is the recipe, not sure how good the new ICE 3er is going to look…
The hypothetical theory I am presenting.Uhh, so minimum investment and same car with changed front and rear ends to look similar to the NK?
If the F70 1er is the recipe, not sure how good the new ICE 3er is going to look…
But better RWD proportions !Apparently, the new 3er with ICE will have a similar design both for the exterior and the interior.
