5 Series BMW 5 Series GT (aka PAS) - spy pics & info

The BMW 5 Series is an executive car manufactured by BMW since 1972.
You're not getting my point at all.

Nobody says the 5er GT exterior design is unimportant due being secondary - yet it has to follow the marketing & engineering demands regarding cabin space & versatility - which was of a primary for this project. Yes, also in other cases design / styling follows the instructions by marketing & engineers, but this time this was even more important.

Of course the very important part of the brief was to make the car very stylish. Geez, it even has frameless all 4 doros!!!

But still ... the prime concern was the interior / cabin space & versatility & design.

Otherwise BMW give prime concern to other aspects not cabin space & versatility - as it was the case in 5er GT.

Instead of seeing a shrink some can take a Valium pill. Better than nothing.

No you aren't getting the point ENI. It is common sense that a spacious people mover isn't going to have the sexiest design in the world, so............there is no need to band-aid it with some bs about "exterior design was secondary".

Hell if you're going to design a people mover/spacious type vehicle you can't have the sleekest design on the road. Everyone knows that so there is no need for the fluff and what not. That is what I'm saying.

Such excuse making is called drinking too much of the BMW koolaid. Such a vehicle not having the swoopiest, sexiest design is a given from the start.

Bottom line is that there is no need for an excuse.

M

Who said a claim exterior design as secondary matter is an excuse????? :t-hands:

Sorry, excuse for what?

The car looks damn good - even the rear & side profile. At least IRL. Not everybody has prejudices towards hatchback / fastback shapes.

****

So ... nobody 's making an excuse for exterior design when saying the car was designed (= developed) inside out. That being an excuse was your interpretation / claim only. This car has no ned for any excuses regarding the design - since it looks quite fine. If you don't like it that does not mean the car has compromised / challenging exterior design.

That's why a call for a shrink or a Valium. :usa7uh:

When the car's exterior was criticized you rushed in with this nonsense about it the exterior being of "secondary importance". That is an excuse that wasn't needed since again, again, again, again....a people mover type vehicle can't have a really too spicy a design overall because it has to have room to carry people and things.

That was an excuse plain and simple. Now you can pretend that you didn't offer it up that way, but you did. Doing so when there was really nothing that needed to be said.

Of course you think the car looks perfect, its a BMW. Any and everything BMW looks perfect because of your inherently biased postion so there is no need in debating BMW design with you because you'll fill up pages upon pages with nonsense about their design.

Quite honestly.....yawn.

Now you're going with the 5GT was "designed inside out"? Really, is that why the exterior is only bad looking in one place vs being awful all over?

Seems to me this is more BS since the car actually looks good from the front and rear, but not the side.....the side profile being the one place they couldn't do anything but have form follow function.

WOW.

Due tell us how this is a new, unprecedented car design procedure/ethic for the car world and only first by BMW. Deisgning a car from the inside out.

Now I have prejudices against hatch/fastback shapes? Yep, only when they're ugly. I don't have a problem with the X6 and have stated so many times....even calling it my favorite SUV (or whatever your marketing people call it) on the market. So no try again.

EDIT: Oh and when I see the car in person and it looks good I'll be the first one to admit it.

They simply did the best job they could with the exterior knowing the demands of marketing and the spacious design..

Marcus ...

Check the pics of clay models. You'll see the car had different - lower & more aggressive - rear. Yet since such a design would compromise the interior space which was a priority here. Therefore the designers had to change the rear design a bit - yet the engineers did an excellent job as well since they first claimed the roof would had to be even higher. So, as you can see the exterior design followed the interior one (not talking about styling here but the layout).

Of course the form followed function ... But who said that's an excuse? As said: the car looks very stylish.

Martin complained about the sum of details was less then a whole ... I then just explained the point behind the car - why some exterior design had to follow the cabin space. Yes, perhaps this car would look more gracious but the rear space would be compromise, and the car would completely lose its selling point. Or perhaps a longer boot would look better - but then the car would be a 5.5m long sedan with high roof & sitting position (such vehicle still coming - the X4).

Regarding your opinion about GT not looking good: does this something to do with you being jealous & frustrated? Since this car looks about zillion times better than R-class by your beloved MB ...

****

And I'm being really tired to be attacked by you all over again. You know very well I'm biased towards BMW, and well connected. And you know I explain a lot - and you always call that an excuse & BS. YAWN! Next time don't read what you don't want to read! If it does not fit you - move on. Can't you just ignore me & my write ups? Or there is some irrational obsession going on here? I hope not. But I'm afraid there is something to it since this is not the first time we have such an argument / fight. It's quite chronic. And that worries me. Since you always initiate it.

Yet again we get a long winded explanation of something that doesn't need to be explained. Typical.

I couldn't care less about this car looking better than the R-Class, thats your thing...MB vs. BMW. Its s cheap angle to say the least since this has nothing to do with Mercedes-Benz. Naturally anyone that has an opinion on anything BMW that isn't favorable must have some type of problem. Typical BMW koolaid drinker's response.

If you notice I don't comment on nearly anything you post anymore. Besides it being consistantly biased for BMW, it is predictable. This however today was just ridiculous. Telling us that car's exterior was of secondary importance to imply that BMW didn't try when it is pretty obvious that they did. The sheer BS of it all deserved a comment.

Now there an obsession, guy get over yourself please? Another save-face tactic for when your BMW-laced rhetoric is questioned and called out for what it is, nonsense.

Also, I do appreciate your business insights and inside information, can't take that away from you, but when it comes to BMW the car and issues like this one your inherent bias renders most of your points useless as far as I'm concerned. BMW could design the ugliest car on the market and you'd be right there to praise it.

Exactly, as far you're concerned.

Very well said.

You've solved your own riddle. Bravo!

Yep and you've managed to give more than a few riddles (i.e. excuses and nonsense).

Doesn't that look a bit like an obsession? To me it does.

And to you every BMW is a work of art.....so much for as to how things "look" to you.

Having had a preview of the marketing direction of the BMW 5er Gran Turismo before the car rolls out before the end of the month, T has made the GT as an object of desire , like a piece of art or a must have accessory.

Simply speaking the new production 5er GT certainly has the desirable look going to it. If you look at the White model shown in FEP stage you can see the larger rims that will come with the car there is also a new pallette of colors to accompany the theme , and new interior colors aswell , my favourite exterior is Damast Red and all this before BMW Individual becomes involved who have some new colours to be introduced accompanying this car , I especially like the mahogany exterior color they have planned , fitted with a champagne exterior with exclusive pipeing at the edges. The car just oozes premium luxury.

With the BMW X1 debuting in June , BMW are holding a press event on the 23rd of June at the Leipzig plant where both the GT and X1 will be shown , these are not test drives but normal pre-launch previews .
All this on the back of the pilot production start of the BMW X1 .
BMW will also be holding special GT preview events to prepare the public for the car.

Both cars will appear as production cars at the IAA in Frankfurt this September.

I tried to refrain from pre-conceived notions but the more spyshots I see, the more does the car look like an R-Class competitor. What's wrong is akward shape. The car is not a coupe and neither is it a fastback. Roof height is way to high for the car not to have the resemblance of an MPV. I see it more as a utility car than a lifestyle product.

Oh boy is it ugly.....but wait until the production version shows up at a dealer.
