5 Series (G30) BMW 5 Series (G30/31/32) Spy Pics & Info Discussion

The BMW G30 is the seventh generation of the 5 Series. Officially announced in October 2016, sales began in February 2017. Production years: November 2016-2023. Body styles: 4-door sedan/saloon (G30), 5-door wagon/estate (G31), and 4-door long-wheelbase saloon (G38).
Bmw bumpers are not very good looking except m cars bumpers

I think it really depends on the model. I used to love the pre-FL F10 bumper. The last gen BMWs use those stupid chrome pieces that only complicate the clean design they use to have. I can already see the fale chrome part on this new G30 front.

But I see nothing wrong with the rear bumper, for example.

@SKY
The 7 series non sport front bumper as examole does not look good enough especially when we are talking about high class cars such as 7 series especially the one without the long chrome bar and that bothers me alot and btw that comes from atrue bmw fan to not understand that as a hating for bmw brand

I have to say, the more camo that comes off, the more worried I am.

If I think back to 5er's of old, and what I thought about their styling, I think of words like Smart, Sharp, Athletic, Muscular, Handsome... (reads like my dating profile ;)), I'm really struggling to find a nice word to use to describe the G30. It really doesn't strike me as anything special at all, not yet at least.

Again, this is coming from a massive BMW fan, I'm not hatin', I'm just worried that thick rimmed kidneys, non descript headlamps and 'more of the same' styling for the body is going to be all we get for the next product life-cycle across the range.

To be fair, I can live with that so long as dynamically it's still the champ, but with BMW these days, that might not be the case, and that's why I worry.

I hope I'm proven wrong on all counts.

From the removal of the camo, I'm slightly worried. If this is the SE - standard trim, the bumpers don't look appealing at all.

As the touringa camo has also been removed, can we expect a dual debut?

I think disappointments usually come from expectations. Not sure what were you guys expecting. Maybe it is some mag's fault that make us all think every new BMW is going to look like the last cool concept.

I was fooled in the F-Series era, when each new car was going to look like the CS and we all know how that ended. I was not fooled this time. The G-Series are almost facelifts of the previous F-Series cars in terms of styling. This G30 proves it. It looks really close to the F10.

The F10 still looks so good these days, so the G30 will certanly look good as well. Probably not as aggressive or as sporty as some might have wanted.

I agree with you on the "face-lift" aspect, but honestly, I'd built up no expectations in terms of styling. I've seen one testing in the flesh and I know it carries the 5 series proportions well, but from what we can see so far, it's basically not a particularly smart, sharp, handsome, muscular, athletic or attractive car... it's just... a BMW styled car.

There was nothing special about the E28, but it was quintessential BMW and I love it for that, I guess it just comes down to the details, many of which we're yet to see. Like I say, in a month or so's time, I hope I can look back at post #2907 and say "oh boy, did I get that one wrong".

For me it is so that rims have an essential part of how a car is looking to me.
The rims of the two 5 posted above are not the types of rims whose I get the feeling to say "wonderful".
For me the rims are the reaon why this both new 5 are looking more boring than interesting.
I have configurated the F10 twice. Once with rims I don't like, a second time with favoured rims.
Maybe only a small detail but for me personal enough to say the first F10 looks boring and the second looks fantastic.
And the same is the case with the latest spy pics.

This is hybrid one i wish the normal one will be little different specially in rear maybe add some silver part or anything.
Cause this one look so similar to the f10 which is not so nice.
And im sure that bmw can make a better rear then this one.

I am sure that bmw are not showing us anything till now about this new 5er and this is only hybrid one.which is not interested to anyone at all.
Also the headlights here in the g30 looks very bad like im watching 2010 bmw headlight.not 2017.

They have been looking like that all the way, why were you expecting anything different?
Laserlight
Or the led one
But the xenon one is shit.
And i know is a type of lights they have
And there is more type which is led one and laserlight.
I am just saying my opinion of this xenon one looks shit in the new g30.

Bmw bumpers are not very good looking except m cars bumpers and the new g30 and g31 looks a lot similar to the f10 and f11 especially the g31in the above latest spy photoes and i think that is a bad thing

I couldn't agree more. Why is it that Porsche and Mercedes are able to make beautiful and sporty bumpers with dimension and depth and then all the new BMW's look like a dog bone shape was carved out of the bottom. It really falls flat and looks like a total afterthought. If they think we don't notice we do....

Don't be so sure. The new 330e is already a force to be reckoned with in some markets where the 330e is the best selling 3er model. Expect the 530e to follow.
The 530e here shows the aerodynamically honed wheels and the Touring shows the typical base 17" wheels you would expect in a 518d,520i,525d etc... These are the big sellers and also the ones that are attractive to the larger fleet markets.

You are comparing a standard executive sedan with a luxury Coupe? And a Performance luxury SUV?

@Bricks

I'll give you that the Porsche bumper looks great, the fact that they don't need kidney grilles and can place the headlights higher up enables them to play more with the bumper (make it huge).

That Merc bumper just looks cheap though.

The market for the 5er is very conservative. The F10 has been monumental in its success. It even brought back customers who defected in regards to the avant-garde E60. Therefore the clinics addressed the pros and cons of the F10.
Many felt the F10 was a return to the more popular E39 in design, the design was a defining factor for the F10 as it brought the 5er back to being a BMW. The 5er is known as the segment leader in the business class therefore it is a popular fleet vehicle as well as with the private owner. I would not say the 5er is boring, I would say it is conservative but for a compelling reason. That is what the customer wanted.
It is distinctive in comparison with the 7er thanks to the details that showcase further individuality between the two.
