We must wait what AMuS means with 6 GT: the successor of the 5 GT or a kind of SB based of the next 6-series.

My personal thought: the 6-series is a range with a more sportier touch in comparison to the 5-series. And when I compare the recent 6-series models with the 5 GT then I have to say it's hard for me to imagine the 5 GT as a part of the 6-series.
It would works only if BMW would change the concept / the idea behind the 5 GT. The next generation must designed sportier. But then the car would probably loose for what the car stands: a perfect cruiser with enormous space in cabin and trunk.

The result of this consideration for me is: either BMW will change the concept and will go a new direction with a 6 GT as successor of the 5 GT or a 6 GT will be an independent car within the 6-series and will be an additional GT-model. Or there is no 6 GT.[/QUOTE

Then how would you explain the co-existence of 2 Coupe and 2 AT? Where is the commonality?

According to AMuS this are the future plans:

- 5 GT will replaced with a 6 GT as competitor to the A7
- the recent 6 GC will produced parallel to the new 6 GT till to end of its lifecycle
- the new 6 GT shall combine 6 GC and 5 GT
- 6 Coupe and Convertible will replaced with an 8-series which will higher placed

@Mick Briesgau: would you be so kind as to report if there are more informations in the printed article than in the online article?
Thanks in advance! :)

Nothing more in the printed article. But pretty nonsense of you ask me.

Thanks aleks_16. :)

I'm a little bit confused about the statement the 6 GT will be planned as a competitor to the 5 GT.
For me the recent 5 GT was always comparable to the A7.

The 6 GC was / is the best seeling version inside of the 6-series and I think it would be wrong to axe this car without a successor. I hope BMW will offer a GC based on the 8-series.

But we must wait for official announcements.

ROFL! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

So the future 6-series will only feature only 1 model according to AMuS: the actually-Mk2-5erGT which will be renamed to 6er GT ... while all the other renditions of the 6er models will be badged 8er (Coupe, Cabrio) or scrapped (Gran Coupe) in the future.

Here's the deal: 6er family is here to stay as it is. Mostly.
8er / 9er family is another story. As it is the Z family.

5erGT Mk2 is coming in the same layout as the Mk1: higher & longer than regular 5er, and featuring a hatch tailgate. But the overall design / styling is much more resolved, so are the proportions.

6er Coupe & Cabrio are also coming.

When it comes to 6er GC Mk2 ... There are two options being considered: 3-box-layout 6er GC + 6er GT (shooting brake) OR 6er GC with liftback tailgate (ala 4er GC).

The final decision regarding 6er GC / GT will be made in the Fall.

This is the next point with a XL "?".

I seriously seriously seriously doubt the 5gt will be replaced.

Cmon guys lets not believe everything we hear.

The 5Gy It sells well because it is relatively cheap for what it offers. The 6er starts at £60k in England.

No way will they change the price that extensively for a different series or raise the price that high for the model of that caliber.

Hmmm.

Don't freaking touch the 6er GC, no GT crap and tailgate and no nothing. It's unf#cking believable the titanesque efforts they put to destroy every bit of great beautiful car for shitty ones. If you f#cking masturbate that much on vans, go buy a shit brand and build all the vans you want and let the BMW badge alone.

for the sake of playing devil's advocate, let's say that the only car comprising the upcoming 6-series family is a replacement for the current 5GT, and that what is currently is the 6-series family (6er coupe, cabrio, and GC) moves up to the 8-series. Wouldn't that make sense because wouldn't the upcoming Z5 take over the role of what is currently the 6-series cabriolet and coupe? Otherwise there's too much product overlap within one brand.
