5 Series (G30) BMW 5 Series (G30/31/32) Spy Pics & Info Discussion

The BMW G30 is the seventh generation of the BMW 5 Series. Body styles: (G30) (sedan), (G31) (wagon), (G38) (LWB sedan). Predecessor: 5 Series (F10). Successor: 5 Series (G60). Production: 2016-2023.
This is obviously a well-timed release of spy shots, 1 day after the release of W213 official images. Simply love how the rival companies trying to outsmart each other :D

As with the release of new G30 spy shots, I still think G10/G11 is the best looking sedan from BMW.

I also get the feeling this time I am going to like more the 7er than the 5er. Which I believe will be a first to me, as I have always prefered the 5er over the 7er without a shade of doubt.

So early? This will be premiered at Paris this year. So the official pics will be here for June/July.

It's a long wait either way.

This launch is going to drag on just like the E class launch did. Particularly because we know what the car is going to look like for the most part after the latest batch of screens.

What happened to the "all the BMW sedans will have L-Shaped frontlights and the coupes will go for inverted L-Shaped units" strategy @SCOTT27 ?

I was expecting a closer resemblance to the Autobild render.

The integrated front of the G30 makes such a huge positive difference to the 5er, just WOW.
I really don't like the click-and-go playmobil front of the F10 anymore.

I'm a happy man, the G30 to me already looks superior to G11 at this stage of development.

I feel the F10 front has more depth in it's design, but yes the new integrated style suits the 5 better.

Scott, Is there any plans for a luxury couple based on the 7 series ( A 8 series rebirth :) )

Also are the design elements of the next 6 series based on the upcoming G30?

thanks!

Well yes I agree, but we're looking at a covered up G30. The 3D parts are still hidden. I mean, the whole bumper is flat with that layer of camo, the final car will have some shape below the headlights and in the bumper.

The depth of the F10 you are referring to mostly comes from the headlights being pushed back from the grille (I think at least), and that's not the case on the G30.
But the headlights pushed back like that in combination with the poor hood shut line does give this Playmobil look, imo. Something the G30 doesn't suffer from at all.

Simply put, the solution of the G30 is a bazillion times better. More aggressive looking too, already.

Hmmm, unfair comparo because the G30 has a considerale amount of camo on it, but going by these few pics, I prefer the F10 approach. It is the E39 2.0. A very elegant design that has aged so good. I feel like BMW trying to best it has only make it worse, as with the F10 LCI.
G30 will look more modern and more high tech, no doubt, but the larger headlights and that weird way BMW connects them to the kidneys in some models (F30, F32, or this G30) is not the best design choice IMO. Still like how it is looking at this stage, though.

I can´t wait to see the side by side pics with the W123 and the next A6.

It looks mostly like an evolution of the F10, look at the shape of the indicator part of the light and also the side character lines almost same. The main change is the grill and headlights joining and also the mirrors are different.

Even the rear end is not alot different only shape of rear lights slightly.

Side profile quite similar maybe with minor detail changes, new car has longer front overhang, but maybe that is cladding disguise.

looks like it will be a really nice Facelift .. or is it life cycle impulse?

1000% opposite :D :D F10's bolt on front design sucks compared to the G30 way. And I also think the shape of the grille and the way it connects to the headlights is just beautiful. Best so far in fact.

You're right about the unfair part though, because it is.

In general ... a VERY evolutionary design / styling compared to F10.

Just like G11 vs F01, or F15 vs E71 etc.

Overall styling gives the new 5er more sovereign appearance (mainly due to more angular styling of several details like headlights, rear lights, air intakes, more 3D and prominent character lines etc) , without loosing sporty ooze. And the aggressiveness is even more emphasized compared to F10 - especially with front & rear styling details (air intakes, grille, front & rear light clusters, exhaust tips etc).

Although the car is more muscular & bulkier than F10, the front & rear body mass of G30 are visually reduced in a very clever way: with double ("broken") shoulder line.
The upper one starts above the front wheel arch and fades towards the C-pillar; while the lower one starts at rear lights, runs through the door handles and fades towards the front wheel arch.
Such styling solution gives the rear end and the front end very muscular & bulky appearance, while the side profile remains F10-like sleek.

Although the simplistic elegance of F10 is a bit lost but there's much more upscale presence featured on G30 (just like G11 vs F01 7er) - mainly due to more attention to styling details and exterior trims.

Interior is also very evolutionary, and following the G11 theme & layout. Differences are similar to the ones of F01 vs F10.

The new Mk formula is identical to the one of G11 7er: emphasizing the good things of the previous Mk, and addressing its main issues.

A significant gain in ride-comfort is expected!

@EnI oh so, there is indeed a double shoulder line but, unlike what I was saying both are long enough to go across the entire profile.

Like the Autobild render basically, isn't it? A slight evolution of the F30 doyble shoulder line but with the upper one being longer.

Regarding the interior, I would expect same dash, speedo, steering wheel and central console, but totally new central tunnel (less bulky, less luxurious and resembling the F30 one, with trim only on the passenger side) and totally new door panels.

Did fireworks get in your eye or something a couple of days ago?
Sure it's evolutionary, but you can clearly see it's all new.
haha i must annoy a little bit..

The new 7er is kind of evolution to, but they pulled it off right..lets hope for the 5er aswell..

But this is the final f#cking time .. come next generation they need to revolutionize..or someone might get dropped:
