Yep, 540i with 4.0L V8 (225kW = 306PS) is already offered in many markets except NA.

So you're saying there will be a 540i V8 with 306 hp and a 535i with I6 306 hp???
Sounds impossible. Who in his right mind would buy the nose heavy V8???

Well it looks like the 535i is going to be a U.S. model according to that chart. Of course we don't get the 540i here so there is no conflict.

BMW's 4.0 V8 is like the black sheep of the engine family, imo. Now in particular, with the beyond stunning 3.0 I bi-turbo.

BMW's 4.0 V8 should have around 350 hp, and the 4.8 above 400 hp....

I'd also like to know if they're going to make any improvements on safety? (5 series only has a 4 star Euro NCAP rating)

And looking at the pictures of the facelift, it seems the only LED lights we'll see are the indicators and not the brake and night lights. Am i wrong in this?

I bet that is what they'll do with the next 7-Series.

When I first saw that thats what i thought as well. They shouldnt have two different engines with the same output...that just doesnt make any sence. If they spread it out where the 550i was more of an S6 competitor, then they would have quite a line of cars..

according to the info above, a 535 is coming however it doesnt say if its going to be in the U.S.

Its odd Eni that they would have both a 535i and 540i seems kind of redundant?
I strongly believe the 535i will come to the US. There are a lot of people anticipating its arrival.
I also believe there is a bi-turbo version of the 4.4 litre V8 to replace the 4.8 litre V8 in the 550.

That is what the bi-turbo 4.4 litre V8 in a 550 I believe will do

From March 2007 535i with 225kW (306PS) 3.0L I6 bi-turbo will be available in NA market only - replacing 530i, while the rest of the world will get updated 530i with 200kW (272PS) - N53 HPI DI in Europe.

540i with 225kw 4.0L V8 NA will be offered in the rest of the world (excluding NA) - just like it is today. Engine staying unchanged.

Also NA market is geting 528i with 172kW, while the rest of the world will retain 525i with 160kW (218PS) (yet Europe will get N53 HPI DI engine).

523i I6 (140kW; 190PS) and 520i I4 (125kW; 170PS) will also get HPI DI engines in Europe. NGI4 engines will be also available in 1er-facelift (incl. 3dr version), 2er, and will also creep to 3er next year. And other models too (Z4, X3).

550i 4.8L V8 with 270kw stays same in all markets. New generation of V8 engines coming first with year 2008 - in F01 7er, X6, V5, and "iS" version of X5.

So does that mean that the "iS" version of X5 will come in 2008 with bi-turbo V8?

Is a bi-turbo V8 even necessary? I mean seriously...with the way things are going with petrol prices...it would be crazy to feed that beast. But I guess if there is a demand, then it will be fulfilled.

MB is higly succesfull with its V12s, only makes sense for BMW to offer by turbo DI V8s.

Like I said earlier:

every engine line will have NA and turbo versions.

NA will be entry-model engines of engine line (eg. NA I4, NA I6, NA V8, NA V12), while turbos will replace top-model engines (the ones with higher dispalacement) in the line - and will be bridges to the highe model of engine.

Eg. (just an example! fiction data!):

NA 1.6L I4 ... turbo 1.6L I4 (replacing 1.8L NA I4)
NA 2.0L I4 ... turbo 2.0L I4 (replacing 2.5L NA I4)
NA 3.0L I6 ... turbo 3.0L I6 (replacing 4.0 V8 NA)
NA 4.4L V8 ... turbo 4.4L V8 (a bridge to V12 NA)
NA 6.0L V12 ... turbo 6.0L V12 (eg. for RR performance models)

Yet maybe in US detuned NA I6 will be offerd instead of turbo I4, since a 4-cylinder engine in 3er could hurt its upmarket image. But 2er will get I4 turbo in US as well.

Also various settings are possible: so there could be eg. two versions of NA 2.0L I4 - one standard, one detuned. Etc. And same could happen with turbos - having different settings.

"iS" version of X5 will come soon after engine will be available. And engine will be available in 2008. :usa7uh:

I thought BMW said no I4's in for the U.S mkt. period. To me it doesn't make a difference whether or not BMW aells I4's or I6's in the U.S. mkt, I've never equated number of cylinders w/ prestige, what a stupid idea. Then again this is coming from a car enthusiast and not a poseur.

I would have chosen a bit different engine lineup for the European market:

550i (could have need an update maybe 290 kW)
540i (For the exclusiveness of V8 but 535i wouldn't have been a bad choice either)
530i
528i (instead of 525i)
523i
And NO 4-cylinder petrol engines for the 5 series! (520i (I4) :t-banghea)

I'm pleased with the coming diesel lineup.:usa7uh: Although 530d could get some 5 kW and 20 Nm more) ;)

So is the goodies list like this, :) the 535 is getting the bi-turbo and the new shifter like X5, flex-ray, fog-lights turn with headlights.......
