2 Series BMW 2er Gran Coupe Speculation

The BMW 2 Series is a range of subcompact executive cars (C-segment) manufactured by BMW since the year 2014. The 2 Series was created when BMW spun-off the 2-door models (coupé and convertible) of the BMW 1 Series into a separate series.
Still unclear if the next 2 coupe and grancoupe will keep the rwd platform or not i remember récent news that the décision will be taken end of 2015/beginning of 2016

The fact that they're even considering a FWD 2 Series Coupe is something I cannot get my head around. I'm pretty sure the damage it will do to the BMW image is fairly inconsequential now.

I have the same information, that next 1 series and 2 series will be frontwheeldrive. According to RfQ's. 2 Series 4door coupe should come in the end of 2019. Several month after the next Generation 1 series.

It doesn't makes sense for costs splitting 2er range in fwd and rwd. It's" difficult "to erase the rwd because it can deliver a danger to Bmw's heritage and tradition
In today's superficial consumer market, heritage and tradition doesn't mean much, and your average buyer won't know or care about FWD or RWD. The last of BMW's heritage and tradition are being upheld by cars like the M2 and the M3.

The m2 is the last bmw rwd sportier compact car. It could have a great value in the future

And before that the 1M, and before that the E46 M3. In other words, the compact RWD coupe is alive and kicking, and not gong anywhere..

The fwd 1er sedan is coming because they made the mistake of putting a BMW badge on a Mini, but they won't make that mistake again; the next gen 1er is going to be rwd like always. You can mark that down just in case. There will be no BMW coupe with fwd.

I hope with all my hearth you 're right

You know about as much as Scott does.

There have been reports about a FWD 1er since the current one was testing. It was Kacher the one saying it. Of course they are not going to say it until the last minute, but I would not be surprissed if it ends up being the case.

I just hope the improve the interior quality of their FWD offerings. 2er GT is pretty infamous.

That's funny because they have not came to a conclusion yet in Munich.

Maybe it's possible that things happen in Munich without your knowledge?

I'm sure he cannot give you one respond. I think he cannot tell to us the decisions or the possibilities to be RWD or FWD or other things before to be official.

But I think and I bet BMW will keep the current range "system" as 2-Series Coupe, Cabrio and Gran Coupe (or called GT) as RWD models and 1-Series and 2-Series Active Tourer and Gran Tourer as FWD models. I can be wrong, of course, but I think the costs of production would increase if they decide to change the platform for regulars version from 2-Series Coupe and later develop and produce one M version with RWD layer, because would be one development practically from one white paper.

My bet is they will use one variation from CLAR only for 2-Series Coupe, Cabrio and Gran Coupe.

Autobild, as a lot of others magazines, has and needs to sell a lot of printed papers and gets readers in Internet, and they use falses informations to get this. It's better to wait any confirmation, from the car producer or from any insider.

i bet that bmw will made 1-2er range under ukl.. but coupe cabrio and gran coupe will be offered only with awd.. maybe they can proceed with : fwd platform - ptu in front axle - no haldex clucth so have 50/50 Torque split and then an active rear
differential ..

^that can't be a gran coupe, but a GT right?
what i think they should consider doing, is group all those 2er Active Tourer etc. into the 1series, together with the hatch (sorry about that, you're supposed to be a hot hatch), and maybe even the sedan (sorry, you could also be a hot compact sedan), and use the ukl; and then have the 2er coupe, cabrio, gran coupe, Z2 or whatever else (shooting brake?) and retain a RWD platform.
I would prefer the 1er hatch and sedan to be on RWD too but given their cost measures and the number of buyers simply pursuing for cheapness, that's a sacrifice.
Good luck. seems more likely that the whole bunch will have ukl.

If you see this car in the street, you don't know if it's GT or Gran Coupe. It's the same that ocurrs with 4-Series Gran Coupe and 3-Series GT, ALMOST not be differentiated, because could be 4-doors or 5-doors.
