Pictures Big Sam's New Porsche Taycan

A few photos of my new Porsche Taycan which I collected on the 2nd November. I've driven it around 840 km now, including a 500 km road trip on Thursday night from the Netherlands to the UK. I love it so far. Extremely comfortable due to the PASM air suspension, and it feels a special place to be. Real-world performance is plenty, and only when you do a launch does it feel "fast" rather than "breathtakingly fast". That will come next year when I collect my Taycan GTS Sport Turismo. The steering feel is very good and it clearly comes from the same company who make the Boxster. The similarities in how it drives are obvious.

Charging has been flawless so far. The Ionity ultra-rapid chargers worked perfectly, and charged the Taycan from 4% to 80% in around 22 minutes. The cost is also a bonus, with a "per mile" cost being a fraction of that of an equivalent performance petrol car such as an M3.

It's Dolomite Silver with Blackberry full leather and Neodyme interior accents.

The full list of options are:

Metallic paint (Dolomite Silver)
Full leather (Blackberry)
PASM (adaptive air suspension)
Porsche wheel centre crests, colour
Electric charge port covers
Panoramic roof
Porsche crests on front headrests
Memory packet
21" RS Spyder rims
Front seat heating
Automatic dimming rear-view mirrors
2+1 rear seats
Electric folding wing mirrors
PDLS Plus LED headlights
Sport Chrono packet
Heat pump
Blackberry seatbelts
Porsche Electric Sport Sound
Neodyme accent packet
Performance Battery Plus
Park Assistant including surround view
Storage packet
High-gloss black window surround
Ambient lights
Porsche Intelligent Range Manager
Door sills in black aluminium
Privacy glass
PVTS (Porsche Vehicle Tracking System)

Congratulations Matt that is a very desirable spec Taycan. Is this the standard model or 4S?

Standard. To be honest, when I was driving it across from the Netherlands to the UK, I was wondering why I've ordered a GTS Taycan, as this has all the performance you would ever need, but rationality doesn't come into it when buying cars. I'm sure the GTS will drive in a much more sporty way, and I will also specify the RAS (rear axle steering). I haven't driven the GTS in any body style, but I have driven the 4S.

Hi Sam, I see you have purchased tons of options for your Taycan. What price did you pay and what’s the price difference between it and a Taycan GTS?

It will be genuinely interesting to see what practical differences you notice on a day to day, between the two.

Probably nothing. :D

As far as I'm aware, officially the boot space is identical between the two, as they're only allowed to quote the capacity below the parcel shelf. Unofficially, the Sport Turismo has slightly more boot space if you remove the parcel shelf, and is also able to take unusual loads. However, I didn't particularly choose the ST for the practicality. I chose the Sport Turismo for three reasons; the higher desirability (the waiting list is longer for the ST than the saloon, and I think the market sees it that way). The "cool" factor. I think there's something a bit special in a fast estate. And finally, simply to have something different to the saloon.

Looks-wise, I'm really on the fence as to which design I prefer. My dad prefers the saloon. I did prefer the ST, but having taken delivery of the saloon, I'm really not sure.

Congrats Mat and enjoy in good health!

I'm very curious to see how this one will fit into your fuel consumption excel spreadsheet. :D :D

Congratulations! Have you encountered any technical issues with starting, charging or engaging reverse?

No issues with anything. Charging at Ionity stations has been flawless. I expected some issues after spending a few months on the forums, but so far, nothing. Really very easy with very fast charges mid-journey.

I’ve congratulated you before, but here comes again… Congrats buddy, such a gorgeous car. And love the pics you have taken, too.

Congratulations Matt, can’t say I’m not a little bit jealous. The standard Taycan is the only one I’ve driven but it was also more than enough for me. Love the driving sensation, feeling of solidity and the sense of “mechanical” integrity from the powertrain.

Cheers Gianclaudio. Hope things are good where you are.

Cheers Martin. It's been out of my possession for the last few days getting a machine polish and ceramic coating, so I'm looking forward to driving it across the Pennines on the back roads from Lancashire back to Yorkshire this afternoon. One fear I had is that it would feel like I was driving an appliance, but Porsche have certainly engineered enough of their DNA into the chassis to make if an "emotional" experience. I even like the Porsche Sports Sound!
