Hot! Betty's New BMW M4 Coupe

xDrive30d M Sport. 265hp/620Nm.

As we're expecting a baby in September I can't justify the M4 AND the R8, so I wasn't going to replace the M4 with a V8 petrol. :D

Congratulations man! I hope the baby won't feel too guilty when you tell them them the story of swapping the legendary Austin Yellow M4 CP for a Diesel X5 ;)

Good choice anyway...care to share the proposed spec?

I will do if/when the order is placed. Don't want to get ahead of myself. The dealer I'm negotiating with is in the UK whilst I'm in Holland, so it takes a bit longer than usual. But I'm driving over in the M4 tomorrow night and I've arranged a test drive of the X5 on Wednesday morning. We're close, figures-wise, but I think there's still some fat to be cut from the deal.

when pulling out of a side road into traffic I could never fully be sure the traction control wouldn't be triggered thus cutting power.
Isn't this true for all high powered RWD cars, I can't think of many that wouldn't spin if you applied more than 20% throttle as you enter a 90 degree corner - especially if the tyres aren't warm.

The thing about the M4 is that it's very hard to modulate. The power delivery is not progressive, and it seems to go from 10% to 90% instantly, irrespective of the throttle settings of "efficient", "Sport" or "Sport plus". I don't know if the fact that the rear suspension is bolted directly to the body has an affect too (Not too sure of the engineering surrounding this, but maybe Martin does). I think that has an effect on the rear-end "liveliness".

Congratulations @Betty Swollocks

Another Betty to piss off @klier :D

Klier is my old nemesis. I have a new one now. If only he would chill out and relax a bit, we could maybe be friends. :D

Does the Competition enable better throttle modulation? Regarding the rear, BMW sometimes make the rear noticeably former than the front. Some resolve this by getting slightly softer springs for the rear.

Either way you have sold the car and I hope the replacement will satisfy you in all ways possible.

Congrats Betty! I stepped through that door couple of years ago. It is sheer mayhem. Enjoy all the sleep and peace you can beforehand.

Not sure to be honest, Luw. Haven't really compared it with a normal M4. There's slightly more power in the CP, obviously, and I believe the 20" rims are slightly wider, so maybe that helps.

I'm driving an X5 tomorrow in Hook, Hampshire. I'll be around our flat in Surrey too. I believe you're down that neck of the woods? Do you have any experience with any BMW dealers to the South West of London? PM if you prefer.
