Booming Bentley in top gear

HIGH-FLYING Bentley Motor Cars is taking on extra staff to cope with the Christmas demand for luxury models by the rich and famous.

The Crewe car maker, which is the town's biggest employer, has reported a 60% increase in sales and is recruiting to meet demand for its most successful model, the Continental GT.

Orders have come in thick and fast for the Baby Bentley dream machine and the production line at Pym's Lane is working flat out to meet Christmas orders.

With a price tag of £110,000, the luxury hand-crafted car is seen as the ultimate gift among celebrity circles.

Famous Bentley owners include David Beckham, Elton John, Rio Ferdinand and Noel Gallagher.

And next year the Baby will have a big brother - the Bentley Continental GT convertible offering the thrill of a 190mph open air ride.

Figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders show the Crewe factory sold 133 cars in November, compared to 82 over the same period last year.

Initially Bentley will be boosting its 3,900 strong workforce by 80 staff - but new jobs can be expected as the larger Bentley Azure goes back into production next year.

This is great for Bentley - this has never happened in the history on the marque - these things are selling like crazy - Merc1 said in another thread, that he went past a Bentley showroom one week and it was full of Continental GT's and Flying Spurs, the next week the showroom seemed to have a completely new "batch" of them on the showroom floor - this is fantastic success for such expensive cars.

Bentley managed with Conti GT to become the "best next thing" for celebrities , bussiness man and executives mainly in US but in many other countries too. Now the Flying Spur is continuing the success story.
I remember when Brooke Burke (in an E! Entertainment TV reportage) had visited a dealership in Hollywood to ask what was the hottest car and the dealer showed her the Conti GT.

To be perfectly honest, I would rather have an S8 than a Flying Spur.

Me too but i can't deny that FS is unbeatable in terms of prestige and luxury (for the price).

There's one vehicle that is very similar and you can get it for less than half the price, and that's the Phaeton. As long as you're willing to settle for a lesser badge and less 'glittery' luxury, you're on the way for a great deal. There's no denying the fact that the two cars are closely related, but the Bentley being the more desirable car.

I think VAG are onto a winner with Bentley, in some ways I wish BMW had of bought them instead of RR because they are the sporty luxury cars, like BMW!
