Think fuel prices are high in the United States? What Yanks pay is nothing to what our former colonial masters are forced to shell out at the pumps, as reports come in of record-high prices in the UK.

According to the BBC, prices have hit an all-time high of 121.76p per liter in the United Kingdom. The numbers work out to $7.27 per gallon in American terminology, but the record doesn't take inflation into account. To put the current British petrol prices into perspective, consider that it will now cost English soccer moms in Chelsea over $163 (!) to fill up their BMW X5s.

The worst news for British motorists is that this isn't even the end of it: with both the Value Added Tax (VAT) and fuel duties scheduled to rise again in the new year, next month is anticipated to go even higher. As Edmund King, head of the UK's Automobile Association put it, "for those people dependent on road transport, it's not looking like a very happy Christmas or indeed New Year." Indeed.

Yes. That's true. I'm currently looking for something more economical to drive. Hybrids partially run on petrol, so no Prius for me.

Diesel is the way to go.

I used to think the Audi A3 was overpriced, but now with petrol prices hitting an all time high, the A3 Sportback 2.0 TDI 140 S-line never looked so appealing as it looks right now.

Gas prices are going up in the States and will only go higher over the next year. Don't be surprised if gas prices go over $4, 5, 6 a gallon.

Ummm sorry. I haven't worked in three years, my funds are shrinking.

But if gas prices do skyrocket that wont be all. Food prices, clothing prices, power prices, everything will also skyrocket.

WOW...Maybe I do need to invest in that Chevy Volt or Nissan Leaf. This is just getting out of hand. And to think Gas prices two Christmas ago was only $1.50.

I am so ready to trade in my truck. This thing drinks everything up like in 3 days. Of course it doesn't help that I drive a lot. Ugh!

The Volt still runs on petrol and the Leaf has very limited range. Get yourself a nice Golf or A3 TDI.
