Much speaks in the duel for the luxury 4WD for the Mercedes. It is stronger, faster, more comfortably than the AUDI and decides with its large trunk and with safety equipment also the body chapter for itself. Its new all-wheel drive works on same traction-strong level as the proven quattro drive of AUDI.
Nevertheless the A8 is altogether the agilere and more harmonious car.
The A8 gains the crucial projection/lead however only in the cost chapter. With a basic price difference in the equivalent of a small car the AUDI points clearly its barriers to the Mercedes, without it offers clearly less in its characteristics. The new FSI-V8 can keep up in its efficiency not completely with the capacity-stronger Mercedes-V8, but the gasoline direct A splash uses less and runs just as cultivated as the S500-Triebwerk.

That sums up the test for me...

Well how about this :

A8/S klasse
Handling track 1:48,2 min / 1:49,0 min
Slalom: 60,2 km/h 58,9km/h

Brake distance 100km/h-0 : 35,7 m / 36,6 m
Fuel Consumption 13.3L/100km/h 14,6L/100km/h

But to be fair, the Mrc. deserved to win.

That's not all.
"Its new all-wheel drive works on same traction-strong level as the proven quattro drive of AUDI."

This just shows you that Quattro is not leap and bounds ahead of the competition.

good test for MB..they won it actually..the price is justified to me..it a better car..hence the higher cost..and thats that..

^not "better" enough to justify the costs. i think thats why we keep seeing mb losing when it comes to these tyeps of comparisons. but on the other hand, how to you put a price on image?

Handling and slalom, not that I totally care (unless it were a 65) luxury comes way before sport in this class of car. Just for sake of it though, look at the rims. The Merc was equiped with 17"x8" compared to Audi's 19"x8.5", more rubber in contact with the ground and lower profile will give any car an advantage.

Ok I stop my fanboy rant. :D

Both are great cars and I'm OK with the winner here... the Merc's luxury superiority is not enough to justify the price difference IMHO.

The S came with 17" wheels? Rather small for a car that big.

The A8 still is still holding well against the S-Class. For those intent on buying the A8, they'd have balked at the price premium for the S-Class, because they surely wouldn't want to pay for the image when they could have just as good a car in the A8. Of course, the S-Class is slightly more cutting edge, like DISTRONIC Plus, we're still talking about a whopping price difference here.

For me, Audi's lower price as well as better performance in most aspects takes the cake here. To top it off Mercedes produces one of the worst stock rims in the world (or at least among the German car manufacturers)... Period.

As usual, there must be a reason that Audi wins..right?
It's so sad to read these comments.

You just can't accept defeat.

100% agree!!!:usa7uh:

:t-cheers:

If I had the money: get the A8, donate the 16K saved to the Red Cross. You'd feel better and you might of helped saved a life (or lives in this case). Now isn't that worth more than image?

Apparently Mercedes Figured out how....:D

That's quite true. But in a price-conscious society like Singapore, the S-Class just can't make the cut. The 7 Series sells many times over the S-Class (this is all the more shocking when you find out the S-Class has been the undisputed leader since... forever) because it's cheaper than both the A8 and the S by a large margin. The 7 Series is overunning the whole country. :D
