The M5 is the ugly duckling but clearly that engine is still a work of art! Even the revised E63 cant outdo it.

Looking at the in-gear acceleration times, it seems that when it comes to real-world performance, the Audi is in a league of its own.

I never liked the looks of the e61, but my what an epic engine... Truly in a league of its own, regardless of the performances it is such a race engine in its power delivery, noise and character...

A shame really to see that work of art go.

As DeDe said already, the RS6 doesn't hold gears, so the times aren't that comparable.

Who would have ever thought that adding 26% to it's output would achieve an improvement of over nearly 30%.

All things considered these figure have to be some of the best achieved by an M5, never mind the heavier estate version. My hat off to BMW on this one.
