Vs Autobild: RS6 Avant vs M5 T vs E63 Wagon

Vehicle comparisons, matchups, debates, performance battles, and head-to-head discussions.
As DeDe said already, the RS6 doesn't hold gears, so the times aren't that comparable. ;)

Best regards,
south

In Sport Auto, RS6 Avant tested in gears with the following results:
80-120km/h in 5/6 gear: 6.1/8.8 s

I know the test conditions are different in Autobild but it is better than comparing kick-down times with in-gear times, so:
RS6 A 80-120km/h in 5/6 gear: 6.1/8.8 s
M5 T 80-120km/h in 5/6 gear: 6.0/7.4 s
E63 W 80-120km/h in 5/6 gear: 8.2/10.9 s

I am surprised to see that even in 400PS mode M5 still beats E63 in in-gear acceleration, for example 80-120km/h in 6th gear:
M5 Touring(400PS mode) in 8.4s
E63 Wagon in 10.9s

In 5th gear:
M5(400PS mode) in 6.5s
E63 in 8.2s

M5 in 400PS mode and in 6th gear is almost as fast as E63 in 5th gear(which is a gear lower)
8.4 vs 8.2
Really interesting to me!

Because the M5's 7-speed-gearbox is very close-geared. The E63's MCT works with much longer gear ratios.:usa7uh:

Yes, i know that but it is still very interesting that M5 in 6th gear beats E63 in 5th gear.
7.4s(507PS mode) vs 8.2s

M5 (E63 AMG)
1st: 3,99 (4,38)
2nd: 2,65 (2,86)
3rd: 1,80 (1,92)
4th: 1,39 (1,37)
5th: 1,16 (1,00)
6th: 1,00 (0,82)
7th: 0,83 (0,73)
Final ratio: 3,62 (3,06)

As you can see the E63's 5th gear is as "long" as the M5's 6th gear and its final gear ratio is EVEN MORE LONGER. That's the reason, why the M5 is faster. :)
In 6th gear, at 80 km/h the M5 revs around 2300 rpm. The E63 revs in 5th gear, at 80 km/h at around 2000 rpm.

Yes, yes I know all that DeDe, i just said that this difference in performance is very interesting depsite 110nm torque difference.M5 in fact delivers more torque to the wheels and that's the reason it even pulls a little better than the much more torquier RS6.The ///M-doctrine was right from the start in 2004 when the M5 first appeared:usa7uh:
I think only Panamera Turbo pulls better in gears than M5.I always love brutal acceleration in gears which pulls you back into your seat, like that of 997 Turbo PDK and Q7 V12 TDI.

This... is...

CARPORN!!!

Seeing these three godly cars all in one thread, together - makes me dizzy.

Design & preformance for the youth = Audi
Sportscarengine for the Stig = M5
Old man power = Mercedes

I would def. buy the RS6 but not now..
Very soon the new A6 will be out :usa7uh:

So hot... Perfect for those "trendy" people out there..

Audi makes me sick by not bringing any form of the RS6 to the U.S. If they don't bring the RS5 they don't deserve image parity with BMW.

If you want image and then sales of lower level cars on that image then you bring over the RS6 and RS5. Even if don't sell but 200 copies of the RS6. So what.

Mercedes and BMW do it more often. The W211 E63 wagon only sold about 200 copies in 2008.

Some good results. Although I'd like to see some trap speeds
with the 1/4mile times. M5 usually
do 115mph.

Can't believe how slow M5 is in p400 mode.

I'm gonna try to hit it big in Vegas this weekend. If I do - I'm buying an RS6 Avant... period.
