Audi’s future lineup revealed

Despite the S4’s and RS4’s jump to supercharged V6s, don’t look for the S5 to make similar changes. According to Audi sources, the V8 actually better suits the car’s luxury image. In that same vein, the S5 will continue to be offered with a standard slush box rather than the sportier S-tronic unit.

That paragraph makes no sense to me. The V8 suits the 2 door S5's more luxurious image than the 4 door S4??? So they are proposing to use a supercharged V6 in the S4 and keep the NA V8 in the S5........what are they thinking? If anything, they should keep the "sportiest" engine for the 2 door coupe, no? Practically speaking, they should just use one engine for both the S5 and S4, as they are essentially the same car/chassis, but save something special for the RS4.

By the way, I guess we have no idea whether the supercharged V6 or the naturally aspirated V8 will be the "sportier" engine.

I think it's just a case of "engineering laziness", that is, they won't update the engine in S5 until the facelift, which should come later than S4. Until then you'll hear marketing BS such as this.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
