Hot! Audi: What's Next?

SAIC AUDI SUV presented as a very production-close concept:

More eye appeal than the Audi SUVs currently offered in the EU, UK and North America IMHO.
This SAIC designed AUDI is like the Neue Klasse to BMW, it is a total redesign that looks great and futuristic.

The "Strive For Clarity" and "Radical Next" future design paradigm announced by Audi AG spokespersons upon the presentation of the Concept C at this years IAA Mobility has already been manifested in the form of the SAIC AUDIs.

The mother company has some very serious catching up to do.

The Q6 immediately looks dated next to the new SAIC AUDI E SUV. It's like a 2-generation gap in design change so much is the change. The Q6 still has traces of VW in its design but the SAIC AUDI is totally unique and is a much better looking car.

Am I the only one who's not crazy about this "SAIC AUDI suv"?

Looks like a generic block next to the confident and muscular iX3.

Both it and the Q6 suck, but at least the Q6 has nice fender muscles. I don't see anything nice in this SAIC AUDI.

I completely agree, the silhouette is almost identical to the Q6, only with a smoother, slightly more modern sheet metal finish. It's not a substantial improvement, but a slight one in my opinion compared to the Q6. And yes, neither of them is particularly exciting.

This new SAIC doesn't yet embody the design philosophy of the C Coupe concept; it feels like a weak intermediate step.

What I don't quite understand is its positioning in China. How can you sell a much more expensive Q6 when this much cheaper SAIC looks slightly better?

I would be very much interested in this design on an A8 replacement with some chrome accents it would look terrific.
Same here.

A similar mode of body surfacing, albeit with a significantly increased cabin-back silhouette. Wheelarch openings cut high and thick lipped, the sheetmetal surfacing around the wheelarches and rear haunches similarly blistered to those of the SAIC AUDI E5. And a more rakish GT sedan roofline. Let BMW and M-B cover the stringent 3-box sedan silhouettes. They are usually the first choice for those sorts of sedans anyway.

This thing looks nothing like an Audi. Which is a good thing, as the brand has zero design legacy IMO. It fits well with the design direction the new chief wants to bring to the table. So why not use this as the base and mix it up a bit with the new design elements presented by the TT concept?

I believe that could work really well.

In concept? Yes. But iX3 is a global car. This is limited to China. Even though it would be successful in other markets.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
