Hot! Audi: What's Next?

Audi seems to be sharing headlights between the RS6 and RS5 models. And no, I don't have the cars mixed up as the license plates of the rear match the correct corresponding rear views of each model. Even the bumper's look to be identical.

It's an early stage prototype.

The A5 and A6 share a lot of chassis components with the current A5 moving to the A6's production site as well.

No surprises that the prototype uses the RS 5 front end to hide the design, after all they will be using the same powertrain too.

I'd call this an early prototype, actual stock A6 front end, with the car wider and lower, rather than what we are seeing in the other photos.

To hide the design, why wouldn't audi just just a generic designed bumper with just larger intakes? or cover up the actual design like they did on the previous RS6?

From looking at many past audi prototype photos, Audi tends to have the final design more or less baked in, with the swirly camo doing the covering up.

This RS5 prototype has an unfinished bumper, but the design is more or less there, just missing the horizontal pieces that go to the center grill.

That first one was an A6 allroad misreported as an RS 6 prototype.

The second picture is a C8 RS 6 mule.

That 3rd picture is the production bumper for the RS 5 Avant, the updated design after they canned the original design that it had been testing with.

Why not. Audi needs a point of difference. Can't just sell etron vehicles that are matched by the Chinese.

The Audi brand is now in the midst of its gravest crisis since the rejuvination of the brand back in 1965. There lie a series of pressing monumental tasks at hand that all have priority over the presentation of some pie-in-the-sky halo car. As exciting as a halo car can be, it is currently absolutely surplus to Audi requirements.

Fat chance of that ever happening, it would seem.

Meanwhile, Audi AG will initiate some 7,500 layoffs at its German production facilities (Ingolstadt, Neckarsulm and Böllinger Höfe). Audi directors have pledged to accomplish this in an as "socially responsible manner as possible". Meaning: The positions of soon retiring personnel will not be replaced with new hires. And the contracts of temporary subcontract employees will expire without replacement. Audi AG management has also voiced its intention to "intensify" its cooperations with Chinas FAW, SAIC and XPeng.

The allegedly "Chinese market only" AUDI (Audi + SAIC) modified PPE-platformed electric estate/shooting brake spotted testing in camouflage-foiled production guise:

It appears a bit more..."interesing" in terms of exterior design than the Audi A6 etron Avant.

Official presentation of the series production version at the Shanghai Auto Show next month, apparently.

Strangely this has Avantissimo vibes all over it.

While the exterior design of the SAIC AUDI E is less angular and more voluptuous than that of the 2001 Avantisssimo Concept, it still reflects that air of very clean minimalism that has been missing on more recent Audi production vehicles. It looks like an Andreas Mindt signature design, but I am not quite sure whether that is really the case.

What is interesting is that with the assistance of Chinese cooperation partners, vehicles such as this AUDI E are being developed within the timespan of 18 months. From initial sketches to serial production version presentation. Less than half the time it takes Audi AG (Europe) to get these sorts of projects off of the ground. SAIC AUDI will be presenting 2 further AUDI E cars as early as by the end of this year. Reportedly a Sportback sedan and an SUV.

An automotive media source (sorry, cannot recall which it was) very recently reported that we will be able to witness the first design exercise under the supervision of Audi's design chief, Massimo Fraschella, at this years IAA Mobility event in Munich. Perhaps some sort of more athletic concept with distinct hints from the various TT generations ? Mr. Fraschella is a confessed major fan of the TT design paradigm. Could it be that we will FINALLY see something GENUINELY exciting from Audi ? It's been quite a good while.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
