A5/S5/RS5 Audi RS5 Thread (Spy pics & info)

The Audi A5 is a series of compact executive and grand touring coupé cars produced by Audi. Production: 2007-
Audi have taken their time because the compitition has increased. When you think that you can probably but a GT-R for what this will eventually cost Audi have to up their game. Going to be really interesting what engine this gets. It won't be a V10 as some sites have suggested.

Most informed opinion currently suggests a N/A dry sump 4163cc HDZ V8 with 450PS, 460Nm and 7 speed S-Tronic option.

First: it's not taking it's time because competition has upped their game. That is a "no sh!t" statement. If Audi didn't see that coming than they are not doing their homework. The RS4 took it's sweet as time, the TT-RS took it's sweet as time. The whole RS line-up always takes their sweet has time. Has nothing to do with the competition.

Second: I know how much we all love german cars here but there is no way this car will match the GT-R. This car wasn't built that way from the get go, unlike the GT-R which was built to take on the 911 Turbo. Even if Audi could do magic and make it happen, Porsche will put a stop on it with the quickness.

I agree with what your saying. However Audi can only build a certain amount of RS cars at once usually three or four different models. RS cars take their time yes, as part of the natural progreession of a model to maintain market interest and to allow for Audi to make capacity for the GMBH devision to build them.

There is also the esence of increased compitition that you have to consider. The S5 V8 was realeased (same time as A5) as a stop gap becasue the V6 3.0T supercharged engine was still in development/testing. Audi could have waited until this engine was developed then released the S5 but they took advantage of the V8 soundtrack and grunt to gain market capture on competition and interest knowing that a V6 would soon be introduced to compete better with the competition and emission standards that the market and environmental legislation now demands. The GT-R was built to take on the 911 like the R8 was. However the GT-R arguably betters both and is cheaper to buy so it has to be considered as the bar has been raised which evidently may increase development time of a car. I think the S5 has probably had more to do with it with the Cabriloet already released and the hard top version due I trhink with the next year.

Porche will hold Audi back in some respects I agree but as I here (rumour) an R8 S/RS using RS6 engine will be released at some point. Who knows?

As was predicted by the Audi rollout schedule that was leaked almost a year ago, the super coupe will charge into battle with the BMW M3 wielding a mighty 4.2 liter V8 that's tuned to 450 horsepower (331 kW). This is the same engine that's currently used in the S5, but with an additional 96 horsepower. A seven-speed DSG gearbox is expected, as well as a conventional six-speed manual. Quattro all-wheel drive will be standard, of course.
Why not the 525-horse 5.2 liter V10 from the R8 5.2 FSI? Hard to say; either Audi's had fitment issues or the 4.2 is considered to be powerful enough to compete with the M3.

they should just stick in the tt-rs engine, up the boost, bigger intercooler etc and aim for 450hp and 600nm.

The 2.0 TFSI is already capable of 380hp and 540nm of torque on the standard turbo so thats the route I would go!

^A turbo charged 4 pot (no matter how good it is) will never gonna cut in a V8 dominating segment.

Absolutely right!! And just imagine the awesome and stunning V8 grumble…if I want a turbocharged 4 cylinder with a hell of horsepower I would buy a Subaru or Evo… :D

It would be truly humiliating hearing the sound of that turbo four next to the V8s from AMG and M,but we all know Audi knows better than that..:D

V8 rumble for me please, If I wanted a Rs4 with as many turbos as I have fingers...

I'd buy a B5 Rs4 (its just as fast)

Tubo 4 in a sport coupe is just cheap, after hearing a V8, it´s just cheap, I4 petrol engines sound almost like diesels, and the good sounds start with the 6-cylinders engines.

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
