A5/S5/RS5 Audi RS5 Thread (Spy pics & info)

The Audi A5 is a series of compact executive and grand touring coupé cars produced by Audi. Production: 2007-
It's freaking pathetic. When I wrote my reply to DaSilva above, this utterly ugly M3 is what I was thinking of. CAR is a BS magazine.

It's a shame really - I used to be an avid CAR reader and have copies going back as far as the early nineties. CAR actually used to be the pinnacle of automotive publications.

Then it all fell in a heap when newly instated editor Jason Barlow started posing next to Merc S-Classes and the Driven section touted a "disclaimer" stating "Warning contains traces of strong opinion". Please man. F&^k off.

I have not bought an issue since.

Conjecture is a wonderful thing. Cars come out with fantastical engine configurations and awe-inspiring power output hikes. Let's see what happens in real life and what Audi officially introduces in the RS5. Speculation is good but at least quote the source of the information and lets hope it's more credible than CARsmopolitan.

Can't agree more with you. I was just like you, CAR used to be the best automotive magazine. Greg Fountain was a great editor, and the mag had Mike Duff and Tom Ford which wrote many interesting and fascinating articles. Then Mike left, follow by Tom and Greg and the magazine is never the same again. It is still beautifully presented but even that can't hide the garbage within.

Back to the RS5. Audi needs to back up their recent smash hits eg RS4, R8, with the RS 5. (note the lame attempt to bring my post back on topic)

Another BS from Car Magazine. :t-banghea

Yes it is. That would be nice. Those RS6-style fenders would be killer on the S5 body I think.

"This exclusive is in a long line of CAR scoops on upcoming cars: note the rag outs of the BMW M1 and ‘new Metro’ covers in the Great Drives section. In fact, that ‘new Metro’ cover is a great example. Did the Metro turn out to look like that...?

Our exclusive is a genuine exclusive because it is based on accurate, inside information. Giving the ACTUAL WEEK that Audi currently plans to start production is not conjecture, in my book. Likewise for the technical information, which is sourced through our German informants. And in Georg Kacher, CAR has the most respected, feared and well-connected journalist in the European press pack. It is a story you should take seriously.

As for the visuals, CAR Magazine is about stunning imagery, and we took the decision to render the RS5’s look to create a beautiful cover. Our RS5 images were far less a leap of faith than that Metro cover was! The days of taped up mules on the cover ended in the mid-90s: our rivals frequently run rendered exclusives, based on far less detailed information. CAR only puts a scoop image on the cover when we know we have the information to back it up. We’ve done it twice in my 20 months as editor, with the M3 and Focus RS – both of which turned out to be on the money.

When the RS5 comes out, cross-refer the facts to our article. I suspect you’ll come to agree that the glass is more than half full, rather than as empty as you and the contributors on this thread suggest. And that stands for everything in CAR Magazine.

With very best regards

Interesting reply, but the main issue I have is that they pretend they have test drove the car and compared it to the M3.

Audi RS5 coming to 2009 Detroit Auto Show, no RS6 for U.S.

Late last month our spy photographers captured images of the still-in-development Audi RS5, and now word has leaked that the car will make its world debut at the Detroit Auto Show in 2009. Unfortunately, however, it will not be accompanied by the 2009 RS6, which is off the table for American sale.

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
