Quattro/S2 Audi Quattro Concept

Keep the ingredients of the Quattro that came before. That's what made it successful. Hybridisation or a KERS system is the only consideration for environmental considerations in today's World.

Maybe there will be 2 versions. "Standard" Quattro with ~350hp and later some limited (or not) Sport Quattro with 400-500hp.

Sounds like a good idea to me. However 500hp from the 2.5L 5 cylinder isn't going to happen. For me it is important that the car keeps to the original Quattro character. But if 500hp is reached with the addition of hybridisation I think that would be more than acceptable.

I have a question though. The 2.5L is designed for a different platform and positioned transversely. How can they use this engine for new A6 platform that is designed for longitudally mounted engines. I know new platform is going to be designed for hybridisation (etron

Same as they did with first Quattro concept.

It's only the gearbox design that determines how the engine is mounted.

I'm sure there was comment somewhere about how costly it would be to re-engineer the platform for the 2.5L. Guess ats why Audi waited for the new platform to be developed

Maybe a bit off topic but... the biggest problem is the long (i5) engine hanging in front of the axle.
I hope.. really hope that the new mlb-evo platrofm for the B9, C8 and D5 models will finally have engine moved back, so it will "sit" above the front axle.
Unfortunately I'm pretty sure, that the whole engine will still hang in front of the (front) axle :/

Audi Sport quattro laserlight concept revealed for CES

Features matrix LED headlights with laser light technology
Audi has announced plans to introduce the Sport quattro laserlight concept at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Looking instantly recognizable, the car is an updated version of the Sport quattro conceptthat debuted at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show.

As the name implies, the car has matrix LED headlights with laser light technology. According to Audi, "two low-profile trapezoidal elements are visible within the headlights – the outer one generates the low beam light using matrix LEDs and an aperture mask, while the inner element produces laser light for high-beamfunctionality." Audi goes on to say the laser high-beam lights have three times the luminosity of LED high-beam lights and will illuminate the road for approximately 500 meters (1,640 ft).

The model also has Plasma Red exterior and a three-dimensional display that is powered by a cutting-edge Tegra 30 processor from Nvidia.

Like the original concept, the Sport quattro laserlight concept has a plug-in hybrid powertrain that consists of a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine and a disc-shaped electric motor. This setup enables the car to produce a combined maximum output of 700 HP (515 kW) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque. The powertrain allows the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds and hit a top speed of 305 km/h (189 mph). More importantly, the car averages 2.5 L/100km (94.1 US mpg / 113 mpg UK) and can travel up to 50 km (31 miles) on electricity alone.

Production Audi Quattro May Be a Blend of Concepts!

Audi still isn't happy with the design and a third concept could be on the way.
Audi first got our hopes up regarding a reborn Quattro back in 2010 with the unveiling of the Quattro Concept at Paris. Sadly, nothing came of it. Then at Frankfurt 2013 the automaker teased us again by revealing the Sport Quattro Concept. The former was powered by a 2.5-liter five-cylinder that produced a wicked 408 horsepower. The 2013 concept, however, came with a twin-turbo V8 paired up with a hybrid system that produced a combined 700 hp.

Today we’re getting new word on what’s happening with this project. According to Audi’s CEO, "the car will come," but it may end up being a sort of a combination of those concepts. Audi R&D chief Ulrich Hackenberg wants the car to have that five-pot and build it on a modified version of the A6 platform. It’d also come with plenty of aluminum and carbon fiber throughout with a total weight at less than 2,900 lbs. Output would be at least 310 hp and could reach as high as 360. Hackenberg also isn’t fully happy with the exterior design, thus making a third concept possible. Amazingly, Audi is now considering building the new Quattro on a mass scale, instead of rolling out as a limited production model.

That's interesting because apparently the IAA car is a work in progress to make the car acceptable for production.
Apparently the nose and rear section of the first model would not reach impact requirements required for production.

If they would swap the 4.0v8 for the 2.5L to give it the traditional Audi engine note, drop the weight to 1500kg giving it around 380hp with an additional 150hp from the electric motors then it would be perfect, as long as the price stayed below £65K that is.

Oh, great! Yet another Audi Quattro Concept. Number 7,876,342,087,266,404. Maybe the #....,405 will finally be a near-production Concept.

Isn't it better to constantly tweak a design than just run with the first idea that pops into your head and hope for the best?

But I do agree this is getting rather tiresome now.

It's very important that Audi get this car right! From the offset people will be expecting the new Quattro to be amazing with the benchmark the Ur Quattro created that arguably but Audi on the map, setting the foundations for where Audi is today- a very succesdful and respected company producing brilliant cars. I'm glad to see Audi want to make another concept. The first was brilliant but the front 'V' things and empty space around grill did't work for me. Second concept has a lot wrong with it if you ask me particularly the front two thirds and engine/hybrid and weight but understand that it is a combination of potential future styling and engineering directions. So the third should hopefully provide a more refined and decisive representation of what the production version will look like and engine and weight. If Audi had already decided without another concept I would be worried. At the end of the day Audi I'm sure are probably already working hard on this car secretly so it can debut on the 35th Anniversary year of the Ur Quattro. I'm guessing a debut on late 2015 with sales mid 2016. We can all hope anyway :-)

There are certain aspects of a car's conception and designing process that need to stay behind closed doors. Showing too many different variations of the same thing shows that they lack confidence and and a clear target.

It's not as if all the other car makers that show us concept cars, just make something and then show it to the public. There's a whole process behind.

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951).
