Quattro/S2 Audi Quattro Concept

Yes I don't get that. It went from a 400 PS I5 to a 650 PS V8? That is not exactly the engine I would like. I'd prefer an I5, at max a V6. I would like this car to be light, and not GT. I'd like this to be a sort of premium WRX STI.

With a 650 hp 4.0 V8 Biturbo engine under the bonnet, it will end up in the double price range then a M4, IMHO.

So what you are saying is it will remain concept and not a true production car because that engine in this spec is all about grabbing headlines rather than anything else.

Audi has already a car that competes with the M4. The RS5. This car has nothing to do with the M4.

I think you will be shocked by how uncompetitive the RS5 will be against the new M4 in the same way as the E92 M3 will struggle to compete with it. Audi needs something more focus and lighter to take the fight to BMW and in my opinion that's what the Quattro Concept would be perfect for.

And then the new generation A5 comes, and turns will turn again.
No matter how you put it: BMW 4er = Audi A5. Period.

But few years later the next gen RS5 comes with the turbo engine (and it will be much lighter than now), and it will competes with the M4.

Guys I sincerely hope you are right with the next A/S/RS5 but it really does need to lose a lot of weight and much more than a 100-150kgs because the current one was 150kg heavier than the E92 M3 and if the rumours of the new one dropping a further 100kg proves true then the next RS5 will need to drop at least 200kg+ to remain competitive and that's a very big ask.

The next A5/S5/RS5 generation will be a completly different animal.
It is already clear that the next gen RS5 will have a all new 3.0 V6 Bi-turbo engine with 478 hp. (little brother to the 4.0TFSI V8 Bi-turbo engine)
This new quattro has a different purpes within Audi then the A5 serie have.

^Throwing horsepower isn't the best way or the right way to achieve the desirable results, dropping weight is the only way. The RS5 might have been as quick as the M3 but not even I wouldn't deny you felt all those extras kilos, actually its my opinion that if the RS5 hadn't had quattro it would have been well off the mark.

What tells us that the next RS5 won't be alot lighter? The new A4 isn't even out. Till the next RS5, it might alos have alot of CF components. Audi is very competitive, I'm sure the next RS5 will be much closer to M3 than the current one is. As for the Quattro, IMO it should be Cayman/GT86 light and have I5 engine, nothing more. It should be the Audi version of "BMW M CSL".

Could use a twin-turbo V8

The 30th anniversary of the 1984 Audi Sport Quattro is right around the corner and a new report is indicating the company will celebrate the occasion by introducing a successor at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
Autozeitung says the model will be sportier than the 2011 Quattro concept and have a "much sharper" shape than the original study.
The car is also expected to incorporate a number of lightweight components including carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP), aluminum and magnesium. This could enable the model to tip the scales at just 1300 kg (2866 lbs).
While the Quattro concept used a turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine that developed 408 HP (300 kW) and 480 Nm (354 lb-ft) of torque, the new model is rumored to have a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 that produces up to 650 HP (478 kW). This could enable the car to rocket from 0-100 km/h in as little as 3.4 seconds.
We can also expect carbon-ceramic brakes, a sport quattro rear differential and a sport-tuned suspension with adaptive dampers.
If everything pans out, the car could be built by quattro GmbH and cost roughly €115,000 ($153,240 / £97,930).

I don't believe in a Quattro with V8 making 650 PS, weighing 1300 kg and costing € 115.000. It is faster than R8, 911, SLS, ANY BMW!!!! and costs least of all.

If true, BMW = Game Over.

Very excited. Can't wait till Frankfurt.

3,4 sec? No way. A GTR weighs 500 kg more and has 100 PS less and does a sprint in 2.9 sec. RS6 is a +2 tonnes wagon and does the sprint in 3.9 sec. In real life it is even faster. 650 PS and 1300 kg will do the sprint in 2.7 sec. It will be the fastest car of all (excluding Bugatti, Pagani, Koenigssegg, LaFerrari, P1).

But it is difficult to believe it will weigh as much as an MP4-12C.

4,40 m long?

Would somebody do the non-German speaking members a favour and give us the general gist of that article?

Thanking you.

It's coming in next year for sale (y)

http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/frankfurt-motor-show/600bhp-audi-quattro-return-2014

Audi is plotting a return of the legendary Quattro to its line-up, some 30 years after the original model appeared.
The new model, which promises to be one of the manufacturer’s most exciting cars of recent times, is set to be unveiled at the Frankfurt motor show in September, before going on sale next year.
The modern-day Quattro aims to revive the spirit of the rally-bred Sport Quattro launched in 1984, and has been conceived as a limited-production model that is set to be priced well above that of any existing Audi - which means more than £125,000. It will be assembled on a dedicated line at the Quattro division in Neckarsulm, Germany.
First hinted at in 2010 with the unveiling of the Audi Quattro concept, the new car is expected to form the centrepiece of Audi’s renewed focus on four-wheel drive following moves by Jaguar, BMW and Mercedes-Benz to increase the number of four-wheel-drive models in their line-ups.
Audi has yet to confirm that it is readying a revised version of the two-year-old Quattro concept for limited production, but Ingolstadt officials have already revealed to Autocar that the focus of the company’s activities at the Frankfurt show will be on four-wheel drive. “We have a great history with quattro four-wheel drive and this will be reflected by what we have in store for the Frankfurt motor show,” said a source.
Details remain scarce, but in a move aimed at reining in development costs and providing crucial economies of scale, Audi is thought to have held firm to its original plans to base the road-going production version of the well received Quattro concept on a modified version of the MLB platform that underpins the A5.
However, while the concept rode on a 2600mm wheelbase, the production car is likely to use a wheelbase similar to that of the existing A5, at 2810mm. The change will alter the Quattro’s proportions slightly but at the same time provide it with added interior space.
The use of the longer wheelbase means the new car is also set to grow beyond the 4280mm of the concept to somewhere around 4500mm in length, or just over 200mm less than the A5. Width and height are, however, likely to mirror the concept at 1860mm and 1330mm respectively.
In place of the 408bhp turbocharged 2.5-litre, five-cylinder engine used in the earlier concept, Audi looks set to provide the production version of the Quattro with a heavily tuned version of its twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8, complete with cylinder deactivation. Again, nothing is official, but Audi sources suggest power will be pumped up to more than 600bhp — 40bhp more than the recently introduced RS6 Avant, which uses the same powerplant.
The V8’s heady power reserves will be channelled through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox with paddle shifters and, in keeping with tradition, a Torsen torque-sensing four-wheel drive system with a sport differential offering torque vectoring to all four wheels.
Extensive use of lightweight materials will be made in non-load-bearing areas as part of Audi’s Ultra weight-saving initiative, but whether Audi can achieve the 1300kg kerb weight it claimed for the concept remains to be seen. As a point of reference, the four-wheel-drive, 328bhp supercharged 3.0-litre V6-powered S5 weighs 1745kg.
Sources suggest a 0-62mph time of less than 4.0sec and a top speed approaching 186mph, which is the sort of straight-line performance matched in the Audi line-up only by the R8 V10.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
