Concept Audi Prologue Concept

Future car concepts, design studies, upcoming tech, and what may come next
Damn. Most stuff I wanted to say has been said. Hell, that previous sentence of mine was already said. LOL. It's not a bad design, just not a huge leap forward. This could easily be a refresh for certain cars. Hell, in smaller size this can easily called the next A5.

Some actually say this is the next direction for the A5 Coupe.

Makes sense then. I will say, like someone already mentioned, that this design is very "now" and not very "in the future". Did AUDI hire people from Porsche to design their cars? Because evolving the same damn design over ages isn't going to work for AUDI unlike Porsche. ;)

Still, it is true the Mercedes looks more balanced. I'm sure Audi designers do get frustrated with working around this engine placement.

I suspect that we will not see a production version of the Prologue Concept. Neither an A9 nor an A10.

Statements by Marc Lichte and Ulrich Hackenberg regarding the upcoming D5 A8 appear to support the argument. "Faster, far more coupe-like greenhouse" and a "generally more sporting demeanor" featured on the next A8 would seem to make an A9 rather superfluous. I can envisage a SWB D5 A8 looking very sleek indeed. In addition, more recent rumours indicate that the next A7 will move upmarket. Based on a lengthened MLBevo C8 A6 matrix ( the China-only LWB C8 A6) and more differentated from the A6, it may be a compelling argument against a future A9. And although Ulrich Hackenberg stated that "it would be no problem to introduce a large 2 door coupe", corporate sibling Bentley (and perhaps soon Porsche) will have that particular base covered.

Certainly, many elements of the Prologue will make their way onto future production Audis. In my opinion, a good thing.

Compare concepts to concepts, like GTA said.

The Prologue would look absolutely splendid with its' front axle moved some 30-40mm forwards. Or...were it MSB-based. Personally, I would then prefer it to the C217.

Is this a new rule?

For god's sake, it was a perfectly valid observation in the context of the previous posts in this thread.

I would say the validity is questionable considering concept cars are already allowed to have impossible proportions.

And more beautiful. :p

The Audi is nice, but it could have come out of a multitude of design studios. Ford included. It's lost that Bauhaus quality that distinguished Audi. If we ever though Mercedes went overboard with superfluous creases, one just needs to take a look at this Audi. Theres barely a span of clean metal anywhere.

The BMW coupe concept is far more upscale and intriguing.

I agree with you, the Mercedes has more balanced looks and proportions. It has much shorter front overhang with sportier raked glasshouse. I also think the back styling and lights look better than the Prologue, but the Audi does have an elegant, noble look to it. Certain element of the styling remind me of older coupes like the 80's Ferrari 412.

[the Mercedes] has much shorter front overhang with sportier raked glasshouse.
Well my point was the S class Coupé does have quite a long overhang for a RWD ......it's just that the bonnet/hood is long and the front axel is much further from the cabin.

Doesn't matter when you compare proportions. If they're going to make this A9, only the details will change. The proportions will not.

This is the same sort of concept as the S class coupe was. The platform and general proportions and shapes are not going to change.

I think the Audi looks far better than the S coupe. Might be because it's (still) a concept, but it's better looking to me without a doubt.

Still, it is time for Audi to finally get rid of that stupid single frame grille. I think we've seen it by now...
Would be an easy way to change design direction that way..

The Prologue looks great, but Audi has gone too angular for my tastes.

I wish Mercedes had gone with those seats in the production S class. But I guess they might not follow the natural contours of a person's body as well as the final production version.

Audi still wins the overhang contest.

Not all together true. If you look at the concept S-coupe compared to the production version the proportions are slightly different.
The overhangs, (both front and rear) are longer, the boot is slightly higher on the production car, the pillars are slightly thicker all around. The production version also has a little bit more body mass. This might be due to the Hi-Strength steel added in critical areas for crash protection standards. Concept cars don`t have to meet these standards, which we all know. Concepts are pre-production ideas so thay are going to be sleeker to begin with. If Audi produces this car, you can pretty much bank on a few proportional changes. The interior will change as well. This concept has no vents for the AC.

Where in the world is Tumbo, I would like to here his opinions on this Audi concept.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
