Seriously though I get what you're saying here. I don't think the A5 is a bad looking car by any means, its just "safe" for Audi IMO.

It's not that it's safe - just check out that gorgeous side profile again - I just think it's simply not different enough to justify Audi's marketing hype. Maybe people were expecting more and I wasn't.

Oh no...that was a compliment. I too enjoy reading posts on design from you and Rob, its really good reading.

I agree with you. The front is understandably derivative in order to retain that Audi brand identity, but I can't help but feel that the lights could've been slimmer and more, let's say, sweeping. Not Nuvolari-like tho'... That's been done already. Also, I have a suspicion that the Audi uni-grill poses difficulties on what to do with the side intakes - across the entire range these features look so generic in my opinion.

This is what I don't like about the A5. (the red lines is what I would like it to look)



* The headlights. They really really really reeeeaaally should not look like that. They maybe would be cool back in 2001 or so. I mean, this could be the A4 B6 Coupé if you know what I'm saying.
Just look at how much the little "curve" in the A4 B7 headlight made a difference:



* Then, the side-hood-line. I really don't like that it goes "up". It should have a more sleek line. Anybody with me?

Yes, and that's a good thing (imo) for your information, 'cause i think the A6 is a great looking car. With 2 doors less and lowered roof line? Even better!

I'll wait to see it before I say for sure ...but in the photos I'm not crazy about the curve over the front wheels.

I don't like how the front grill is concaved in. The grill should be powerful and protrude outwards, like the rest of the Audi range. I am not a fan of the curve/wavy waist line. It is most evident when viewed from the front 3/4 angle, but it isn't as noticable when the car is viewed dead side on, but the line just doesn't go with the rest of the car. I am really disappointed by the shape of the front lights, although the detailing is interesting. I thought Audi will apply the R8/TT rear light detailing on the A5, they look fantastic at night, but the tail lights on the A5 looks very two dimensional.

I belive the A5 will be the winner in the tests when it comes to design.
(eaven design is somthing personal)
