  • Audi A5 Sportback voted favorite car
  • Audi A1 takes top honors in “compact car” category
  • 21,066 readers choose from among 88 new models
Dual distinction for Audi in the “auto motor und sport” (ams) reader survey; a level of success unmatched by any other brand. The Audi A5 Sportback and Audi A1 outpaced top-class contenders from Germany and abroad.

Leaving the competition trailing in the “mid-size” category, the Audi A5 Sportback was also voted the hands-down favorite of all categories overall by 79 percent of survey participants. The Audi A1 got top marks from 67.8 percent of ams readers, landing it in first place by a clear margin in the “small car” category.

In all, 21,066 readers of the specialist magazine “auto motor und sport” took part in voting for the “Autonis – Best Design Innovations 2010” awards. 88 cars in eight categories were up for selection.

In an evening ceremony at Solitude Castle near Stuttgart, ams Editor-in-Chief Bernd Ostmann presented the awards to Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG, for the A1 and to Michael Dick, Member of the Board of Management of AUDI AG for Technical Development, for the A5 Sportback.

I odd thing is that many criticize Audi's recent design as ugly and boring yet here they will awards for the very thing they are increasingly getting criticized for, don't figure?

Well, not everyone writes on internet message boards about cars, and some of those who do so are more vocal than others. :eusa_thin

True but you would expect to still see a reasonable cross-section of opinions but this isn't the case here. Maybe AMS readers are more favorable to Audi as a brand. :t-hands:

That is the case in Sweden. Swedish AMS has turned from pro-BMW to pro-Audi in just a couple of years and I guess that has made an impact on the readers too.

That sounds about right, the media has that effect on people.

It's like on here where the majority are pro-BMW which I might add there nothing remotely wrong with but it will effect every debate, poll etc which happens to have BMW associated with the discussion etc, or you go to a Porsche, Audi, Mercedes etc forum and see something similar.

Such is life. :t-cheers:

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
