On Topic: I agree with Eni's interpretation-it could be the problem with teh A5 is a lack of direction.. Maybe it lacks "personality" tough to say.

You are probably going to snap at me, but last time I remember you loved the E92 and how it looked... guess not

No, I never seem to quite understand why folks like to drudge up things from the past as some sort of ammunition against another, but that's ok.

Before hand we had no actual A5 pics other than spy shots and others of the like, now we have real photo's for comparison. I'd still take an E92 over an A5, but at this point only under special circumstances (providing it's the better drive). The A5 has two things working for it that I feel are soar spots for the E92; 1) The exterior looks more organic and sensual than that of the E92 which comes across as a bit overly accentuated for the sake of being different, contrived. 2) The interior, as mentioned is light years ahead of the E92 which looks sterile. The A5 will ultimately prove the nicer place to be as far as the inside goes.

That's fine, that's your opinion. I'm not using anything any kind of attack but I just thought that you liked the E92's looks. But whatever. Interesting that you think the A5 is more organic. Personally, i think those creases on the side makes it seem as if they tried a bit too hard to be different.

Hey Warot, refer to post #22. I think you might understand what im trying to say.

One thread was almost ruined and i won't allow for this one to happen the same.

No fights, arguing, insults or such! Normal discussion please!

Many thanks in advance!

say that again :D

While I have never been a big fan of the non-M 3 series coupe (from E46), that is one hot picture and that is not even some pro taking a pic in a studio under controlled environment, it is some guy in his garage. :eusa_clap

That's my bro right there - you tell em Sash!

Lads, I'm still astonished as to how much emotion is being projected in this BMW Coupé vs Audi Coupé thing. The 335i is lovely - no doubt - but in its own right it has polarised opinion in the motoring fraternity over its less than adventurous styling. If you lay criticism at the door of one, you must lay it at the other because, let's face it, coupés in this segment are never going to be the mould-breakers that define the new identity of Audi, BMW and Mercedes Benz for that matter.

In the premium small coupé market, conservatism rules ok.

Z4 coupé?
Nice one Rik, and I did consider how people would view the Z4 in the light of that statement.

I consider the Z4 a sports coupe - a modern iteration of the classic sportscar if you will. In referring to premium, I allude to an element of luxury as found in typical 2+2 coupe's with less of a hardcore sporting bent as the Z4 or Audi TT.

My criticism of the A5 is not that it doesn't break the mold, it does, but in the wrong way.

I can't understand how you'd consider the A5 to break the mould in any way for a contemporary coupe - I feel that it adheres strictly to the tried and tested genre with only a few differentiating features. Same can be said for the 3er.

So let's agree to disagree... :)

These cars are two peas in a pod. One has a decidely BMW identity, the other a distinctly Audi persona. Neither of them has set the world of coupe styling alight and neither are butt-ugly either...

Thanks. :) I do get a lot of practice taking car pics though, I admit.

On topic: I voted 335i. I am biased though. Until I see drivetrain info on the A5 I can't vote for it. When I first saw the pictures it reminded me of the 1999-2001 Hyundai Tiburon from the side (the kind of flowing body line on top, with a strong one underneath), but the more I see it the more i like it. I'm still not a fan of the side profile though.

Lack of personality hmmm, that's strange considering how little resembles the rest of the model line-up IMO.

I agree whole heartedly. Once again Martin, you've put things into perspective as they should have been from the get go.

honesltyy. the audi looks more like a real mans car, but the 335i is just more attractive. offcourse IMO

Part of me wants to vote for the A5, another part the E92... which one shall I choose??????

To be honest I'm feeling closer to voting for the E92, it has more of the character that we've become accustomed to from the BMW brand but in a more forward. modern, and exciting way. The more I look at the A5 the more fizzes to mind the original Quattro coupe and it's boxy features, which found their way into one of the most defining characteristics of any car, the headlamps. Driving an E92 is more than enough to escape the somewhat clinical interior, though it still stands the A5's is far superior.

I guess I should have been more explicit - I didn't mean to imply that the A5 breaks the mold for a coupe, but it does break the mold for an Audi. It is a different design philosophy from any existing Audi, production or concept and that is what I was alluding to. In fact, imho, minus the Audi grill and a few other signature Audi touches like the side air intakes, it is more BMW than Audi.
But yeah, agreeing to disagree sounds good too :t-cheers:
