Vs AMS test RS7 vs M5 CP vs Mercedes E63 S AMG

What I have observed - German mags, handling = skidpad, slalom numbers. British mags, handling = how it feels. Two very different things.

Yeah I see this pattern too. Betty would be surprised, but the British way is what I like.
But I find it strange the Germans seem to focus on numbers and not feel and fun (when they talk about handling)

No kidding the AWD grip monsters handle better in the slalom and 0-100km/h sprints..
But when I talk about about handling, surely I mean the feedback it gives, the way it makes you smile and the overall feeling of the car.

What do Cadillac, Lexus and Jaguar think when they see a pic like this? The CTS-V and the next XFR-S can't come soon enough.

M

Hehehe….or they shouldn't even bother with them to begin with :D
And speaking of the new XFR-S…..that's many years away I'd guess. When that car comes, the next gen E AMG is ready to humiliate it….

Yep. But every reviewer is different and every car will be rated differently because of that.

In the last test I read against M6 (either CAR or Top Gear), the RS7 did very poor indeed..

In those fanboyism entertainment shows (especially the latter) it's not about facts they only reproduce stereotypes and their preferences. They can declare that the R8 handle worse than i3.

Especially the latter? As if CAR is known for fanboyism and entertainment? Please give me a break here! You know CAR?

The Audi is bi-turbo fast, Quattro-earthed and four-rings-solid. A future champ, no doubt, a highly competent attempt at perfection. But at the same time this is a strangely soulless automobile, remote and rather cold, chip-biased and not a particularly gifted communicator. Kind of a triumph of machine over man, really. The M5 is an extremely well balanced all-rounder, a master of feedback, honest through and through, always ambitious but never aloof. It is, by a short head, the better car.

And don't even get started about what EVO has to say about the RS7 vs M6 GC…..I almost feel sorry for the poor bastards from Ingolstadt:

EVO said:
For outright handling, the M6 GC is another league to the clumsy RS7

In the Audi you soon learn to surrender all hope of working in partnership on a fun road

When left to do it's own thing the RS7 begins to feel a little more together, but the steering is horribly artificial so you'll never feel connected to the car

I can go on and on with finding nasty quotes about these cars (RS6 and RS7). From respected mags.
I simply don't like them at all…..If I were to get an AWD power sedan…..E63 AMG S alllll the way.

They do not have it that bad, 2 of the most objective magazines chosen RS7 over all, even Panamera (but here probably by price)

@klier CAR EVO: Then you show what fanboyism language they use.

I don't care what you would choose. And don't be a mad. Sorry if I pissed you off.

Not in the slightest. A nice little argument is always welcome on this forum, if we can keep it civil of course ;)

Overall I must of course agree with you: British mags tend to be biased. Not towards British cars per say, but towards what they have in their own minds before they even do a test…..pfff..…guess I'm more British myself than I want to be LOL

^lol what kind of a 'proud fan' refers to somewhat older audis as 'heavy understeering pigs'?!

but never mind that, Im gonna give your post a like even though you dissed mine. and thats not just because you made me laugh, its also because you had enough courage to get out of the closet ('proud audi fan'). Im proud of you.

You know.. that's the difference between fan and fanboy ;)
I'm an Audi fan, but I'm also aware of their weak points. I like that they have improved handling with the RS6/RS7 but now they have.. the MUST change their platform. Engine has to be moved back and sit at the front axle, and not hang in front of it anymore.
Next Bimmers and Mercs will improve.. and there's no more improvement with 100% of the engine hanging in front of the car.. so they need to change it finally.

I'm not at all surprised that the RS7 is producing the best figures in the handling department, AWD should in theory do that... what with it's ability to send power to the axle with the most grip.

^I might add to my previous statement that I'd hate to think of the occasion that Audi ever dropped AWD for their performance models because it's this that keeps them unique. All I want is the same as emet, continue to move the engine back but change little else.

Audi little improved weight distribution, now RS6 for example have weight distribution like GT-R.

Weight distribution only tells part of the story. You can hang two 200lbs weights at the end of a 20' pole and have 50-50 weight distribution, but do nothing to improve dynamics. What they also need to do is move the engine behind the front axle to reduce the polar moment of inertia, something they can't with the current quattro.

Yeah, nice. FWD RS models
And AWD is far from unique. Everybody and him mom is turning to cheap gain AWD.

Including BMW too, so does that mean they are also seeing the light..... oh and please don't answer that as I'm not that care to hear what you have to add. Audi are quite unique in its market position to offer exclusively AWD with all their performance models, Quattro might not be perfect but it's brilliant for road use as it's drama free to drive quickly regardless of conditions.
