Rumors All that Talk about a BMW Supercar

Unconfirmed reports, insider speculation, leaks, future model expectations, and discussions about what may be coming next.
It will have an Autonomous drive feature. It will not only look out of this world but I be able to do things that are out of this world.
I like your sense of humour. The car won't be manufactured hence the "autonomous drive feature" and the hyperbole as well.

It sounds like all the attention is on autonomous driving because that's the "hot topic" in the car realm right now. As long as BMW justifies their heritage with actual driving dynamics, life is good.

But the problem is that they HAVEN'T been doing that.

You know what the real problem is with this statement? BMW used to make cars for these 10% of customers because that is what BMW used to stand for, the ultimate driving machine. The remaining 90% will buy the car regardless. Take Ferrari, Porsche, and Mclaren, they don't care if 90% of their customers are show off, rich and famous wannabe, they designed and built the best car they possibly can, and the cars stay true to the core philosophy of their brand.

Someone should go dowhat Eagle and Singer do to E-types and 911's, but to older BMW's (at a lower pricepoint though). I bet you could make a ton of money tastefully resto-modding 2002's, E24's, and E30's.

Can you summon you car? If we get perspective about sports car 10% are bought by enthusiasts the remaining 90% by social climbers who are more interested in the bragging rights and status and the fact it can match your wardrobe other than what the car is intended for.
The autonomous feature will be the bragging feature so your car can give you a batman-esque or even bond-esque complex when you remotely operate your car outside a public place of send it to charge.
I am sorry but I don't agree with anything you are saying here. Most people i know who own sports cars buy them for the way they make you feel when you drive them, the thrill of the driving experience, the looks and also brand is definitely an important factor, but to brag about a stupid autonomous feature that will be a novelty when they first buy the car but wear off after a while just doesn't make sense. People admire sports cars for the thrill they provide and look and I am sure won't get excited if it parks itself. Sports cars are made to provide driving thrills that don't exist in ordinary cars, make a person excited deep inside when they get behind the wheel, start the engine, select a gear and then take the car on a winding road to feel the sharp steering and hear the fabulous engine noise.

In my humble opinion, as far as the 3er and 5er are the sharpest to drive cars in their segments, BMW doesn't need a (M8) supercar. BMW's core values are to be seen in their bread-and-butter sedans and coupes. Not in any type of supercar.

The i sub-brand is a whole different story though. Trying a totally different approach, with a very innovative chassis and hybrid powertrain. I believe it's the combination of the chassis technology with the hybrid powertrain that makes the i cars different.

I'd certainly love to try them, but I doubt I'd find myself owning one, had I the money.

They are like sail-yachtes. Beautiful to look at, fantastic to spend your vacation on one, but the best yacht ever is the one that belongs to your friend.

According to several sources close to BMWBLOG, BMW will finally give its fans a new high-end M car. The M8 nameplate will be resurrected in 2019 and will include, not one, but three different models. Based on the new 8 Series family, BMW will produce an M8 Coupe(F92), M8 Convertible(F91) and M8 Gran Coupe(F93).

First model – the coupe – is scheduled for 2019, followed a year later by the M8 Convertible and M8 Gran Coupe.

The BMW M8 is the BMW supercar that wasn’t. It’s a car that has barely seen the light of day, instead it spends its time locked away. Only one was made and it was only myth until a few years ago. Based on the original BMW 8 Series, the M8 packed a V12 engine, a six-speed manual, crazy body work and a hardcore, stripped out interior. It was a monster that all BMW fans wanted and none actually got.

BMW M8 One-Off

What the news also mean is that the M6 family is gone for now. We’ve already learned that the 6 Series Coupe, Convertible and Gran Coupe are being replaced by the 8 Series, so it comes as no surprise that their M equivalents have been scrapped.

Just like the upcoming F90 M5, the new M8 models will pack a reworked version of the brand’s 4.4 liter twin-turbo V8, much like the new BMW M550i does, and should develop around 600 hp.

To get those ponies to the ground, though, the new BMW M8 is likely to also have an eight-speed ZF-sourced automatic gearbox, rather than the DCT unit typically found in M cars. The reason for that is that the DCT (dual-clutch transmission) isn’t set up for all-wheel drive and it likely can’t handle all torque of the mighty V8’s torque, which is said to be around 516 lb-ft.
All-wheel drive will certainly be part of the offering as well. For years, the company has been putting away the idea of a four-wheel drive M car – aside from the M SUVs – but now with the new M5 opening that worm of cans, other models will follow suit as well. And the new M8 models are the perfect candidate to offer the traction needed all-year round.

We will likely start seeing the first M8 prototype roaming the streets in 2018, but until then we will keep our ears to the ground for more information.

BREAKING NEWS: The BMW M8 is finally coming!

If we ignore the Supercar click-bait it's not a super car but basically the replacement for today's M6 Coupe,Cabrio and Gran Coupe models. And you would be pleased to know the Gran Coupe keeps its shallow glasshouse like today's car.

Yup, @bmwblog thats clickbait... -1 rep points for this... no one is going to be surprised BMW will replace the M6 line-up when they replace the M6.. Even if they've added 2 on to the badge and 20,000 onto the price.

This seems to be a replay what happened in 1989 BMW are replacing the 6 series with a slightly bigger 8 series model and maybe in future it will become a 6 series again as the 8 series hasn't sold like BMW had anticipated.

Haha I created this thread in year 2013 and still no supercar. At least I'm still alive after 4 years :D

This rumours about this car Is like a myth about ghosts. Maybe it exist, maybe not. But one thing i can tell, we won't see it. Maybe even my grandchildren will read some of this rumours in 2060.

There are still ongoing frequent visits to McLaren in Woking from personnel from Munich.

And they still go home with nothing else then Dreams. And the next Day they are goin to drill on the next suv.

I've also heared that ... but what should be the benefit for McLaren?
I mean - the Ricardo engine they have at Hand, is very migthy... and it is such a racing oriented engine, that no ///M engine will top that (they have to work in bread and butter cars like M5/M8/X5M) ...
So - I do not see any benefit for McLaren from a cooperation with BMW right now? So, can someone enlighten me, why McLaren should be interessted?

Money, which means a lot for "fledgling" car company. There was chatter that McLaren's monocoque manufacturing facility will have plenty of capacity to produce chassises (chasses?) for use outside of McLaren. I am strongly suspecting that may be why there's some sort of discussion happening between the two parties.

But I still take an M10 with a giant grain of salt. I'll believe it when I see it on the floor of a showroom.
