Mercedes sales crisis

The Mercedes-Benz Group suffered a notable sales decline in the third quarter of 2025. The situation was not going well for the Mercedes-Benz Cars division, whose sales of 441,500 units were 12% lower than in the same period of the previous year. This must be considered a serious sales crisis, and it is likely to affect the inventor of the automobile in other ways as well. While Mercedes-Benz weakened in the third quarter of 2025, Tesla posting quarterly sales figures better than Mercedes-Benz Cars for the first time in its history, (497.099 units).

BMW significantly extended its lead over Mercedes again in the third quarter.

BMW's brand lead for the full year up to September has increased to almost 250,000 units after the third quarter (the same figure as the whole of 2024), so with 3 months left in 2025 the gap between the two brands will be considerably greater than last year.

Mercedes Benz: Q3 2025 - 441.500 units (-12%)
BMW:
Q3 2025 - 514.620 units (+5.7%)

Mercedes Benz: YTD 2025 - 1,341,400 units (-8%)
BMW: YTD 2025 - 1,585,580 units (+0.1%)

*BMW Group: Q3 2025 - 588,300 units (+8.8%) / YTD 2025 - 1,795,894 units (+2.4%) (BMW+RR+ Mini)

I've been saying for years that Mercedes needs to restructure.

Sales fell 12% in the third quarter. They need a new design language. Gordon should have been fired long ago.

Huge gap between BMW and Mercedes sales this year so far 245K difference. Mercedes facing a steep fall of 122K units compared to 2024. Strange both companies have 17K less sales in BEV compared to last year but an increase of about 30K with PHEV.
