An interesting article i've found on the web:

McLaren MP4-12C: A Supercar That Weighs Less Than Its Name | CarEnvy.ca

The weakness of the MP4-12C is undoubtedly the aesthetic of the design. Aside from the Lamborghini-style doors, the style could be denigrated as derivative. No one in the right mind would criticize the engineering prowess of McLaren, just as no one would call their designs jaw-dropping. McLaren, then, is a car company for drivers, not boulevard cruisers and aesthetic-fussed hipsters. And that’s just fine by us. Jenson and Lewis don’t seem to mind either.

And that, my friends, sums it up ! Anyone who rejects this car form the start just because it doesn't have that "look at me, I'm gorgeous" look, is really missing the point of what mclaren is all about ! So while Ferrari's and Lamborghini's are often buyed solely on their looks by people who want to make a fashion statement, i.e. by posers, you can rest assured that anyone who buys a mclaren is a true car enthusiast, and not some wanna be naomi campbell :D

I don't doubt the engineering behind the car or it's abilities to impress and while I actually don't mind it's looks I can fully understand why some based their purchase on this very thing, everyone would have a one night stand with a pig ugly woman if she was great in bed but they would hardly want to marry her.

Sorry, but I don't see any resemblence what so ever between the MP4 and the 360 Modena...and with the F1, except the shape which is somewhat similar given they are made by the same company (just like current gen porsches have pretty much the same shape as old gens), there aren't any other similarities as far as I can tell:

Mclaren Mp4 and Mclaren F1 side by side comparison

Actually, even if you didn't know anything about cars, you can pretty much tell which one was designed in the 90's, and which one is not.

mclarenftw, you have to know that each member is entitled to his/her own opinion. And you also have to understand that you can't force anyone to share your opinion. Because you like a certain car, it doesn't mean that everybody has to like it!

There is no point circulating the same argument about the MP4-12C. There are some people that don't like it. You don't have to make them like it. Period.

Please, do not continue this pointless discussion. You have been warned once by MikeJ. This is your second warning.

Everybody only looks at the the look of the McLaren and not the what it is. I find the McLaren much more orignial than the Porsche, Audi and Lamborghini.

We would be happy like little kids if BMW had a car to compete with R8, if they would make anything THAT good like R8 - being able to be a supercar in one of it's versions too.. ;)

Saying that R8 is lame and even that Gallardo which i don't like at all is arrogant, mind you. You can dislike their looks, but these are cars only to .

lol, please.
Arrogant, hahahaha :D

Tyc, bro, you should know better ;)

Ferrari 458 Italia. The second best performance car in the world. 540 Nm out of just 4.5 litres of high-revving naturally aspirated engine-slash-work-of-art. The looks. The interior. The integration of the Engine, DCT and Suspension management into a cohesive whole. From what I read and see (I'll probably never experience it) it's this 458 that ticks the most boxes for me.

I care little for the out-dated Lambo. I love the idea of me driving an SLS and the R8 GT is sexy but lacks the class of the cheaper, more elegant, more classy, more versatile R8 Spyder. The McLaren MP4-12C is a technical tour-de-force and it'll be great to drive I'm sure but it lacks exciting looks and the aura of the Ferrari. It comes across as more the clinical, precision driving instrument than an object of lust and wonderment - which, I feel, is a key ingredient in the supercar recipe.

As for the GT2 RS. I can't believe this but I have hardly any love for this new car despite its enormous ability. I just hate the "fast 'n furious" looks. Don't ask me why - I can't explain how I think a GT3 RS looks the shizz in day-glo pink and yet the GT2 RS looks aftermarket. I see Gemballa in it. And I don't like that at all...

And what do you mean the second ?!
The Ferrari is just as much tour de force and clinical precision driving instrument as the McLaren; both cars are clearly F1 influenced.

Hate to say it, but the germans got out-germaned.

BTW I take the Ferrari.

^ I saw the GTO in real time last week at a dealership....

...I was like.....holy crap... :bowdown::icondrool:bowdown::icondrool
Lucky Bugger. I can't wait to see it really. A 599 is already a rare and extraordinary sighting here in SA - something to really get excited about. But a GTO? That's a whole new level of drool factor.

I'm sure you've checked out the 599 GTO online configurator. There are some insanely hot combos - particularly when used with the decals - that do wonders for the car's already gorgeous looks.

Yup, you are given all the tools needed to go utterly bananas with the GTO. I hope not all cars end up red with a black roof.
