5 Series 5,555,555th BMW 5 Series Production Milestone Reached

BMW marked a milestone by building the 5,555,555th 5 Series car since the series launch in 1972. The particular 525d xDrive Touring in question will be donated to the Bavarian Forest National Park, the oldest such reserve in Germany. The 24,000-acre nature reserve was created in 1970 as a haven for nature. It hosts about 800,000 visitors per year and boasts such attractions as wild animal enclosures and more than 300km of hiking trails.

Lovely colour on that E61 - 5.555.555 is absolutely stunning. Would be interesting to know, how many W211/S211 or better E-Classes were sold the last few years…

The most popular E is still the W123 with over 2.3 million vehicles produced...

Mercedes sold about 13 millions mid-size sedans since the Ponton in the 1950's.

Mercedes sold 1.5 millions W211s at the end of 2008.

I did some research:

W123, over 2.3 millions including all variants.
W124, more than 2.2 millions including all variants.

W210 and 211, I didn't find the numbers, but they are significantly less impressive. I'd say just under 2 millions.

5.5 millions since 1972 is impressive, and contrary to MB, every new gen sells more then the outgoing one.
