You honestly believe that Audi can't make a car as fast as the CSL M3?

Dude maybe your not up on cars as much as you claim! Company's like Buick and Saturn can make a car to achieve the same if not better performance then the M3 CSL, the only question is will people buy it, and is it worth the investment! My point in my previous post was that Audi makes plush cars, not ballbusting, optionless, sportscars my friend. Unlike BMW being forced into a market segment they'd rather not play in at this time (M10 to compete with the R8) Audi would never follow in BMW's footsteps with a stipped down, lacking everything Audi's known for in creature comforts car like the CSL. It wouldn't fit Audi's image, or customer base. BMW owners on the other hand aren't overly concerned with having 1st rate interiors, so bare bone versions of there cars fits BMW's image quite well! I believe the E92 M3 CSL will offer the majority of the features and comfort of the standard M3, so you'll see such performance want be obtained this time, do to the lack of weight reduction imho. I said what I had to say, peace!
Your comment is somewhat contradictory. I agree that Audi could make a stripped down version that is faster than a CSL, but then you say, they won't make it because they don't feel its necessary. Then you go on saying that BMW are being forced into the supercar market segment to compete with the R8. So whats to say that Audi won't be forced into the lightweight, barebones, go-fast market? Apparantly, Audi will never follow BMW into that market, but as far as I'm concerned, if the market demands its or there is enough interest, then Audi will go into it, just like BMW is (supposedly) going into the supercar market to compete with the R8.
Unless you are the chairman of the board of directors of Audi... or the owner... I don't think you can make a statement like that. Fact is that you or I will never know what the world market demands now or in the future. If you make such a statement, then you'll look the fool when the stripped down RS model comes out - just like those BMW fanboys who criticized turbo engines back in the day.
By the way, using your argument that Audi could do anything that BMW could do, BMW could create a plusher better car than the A8/S8/A6 or whatever than Audi if they wanted too.
Next, BMW and Audi's customer base are coming closer and closer with each and every model. Why? because Audi has openly admitted they are following BMW in creating more sporty, driver-focussed models, because apparantly thats where the market is at the moment. Example evidence for this:
(1) Rear-wheel biased 4 wheel drive,
(2) RS-Quattro GmBH poaching M engineers and BMW poaching them back
(3) More sporty models as of late.
(you get the point).
I wouldn't be surprised if a stripped down model, potentially even a special edition to promote their success in DTM etc, would be presented in future, thereby negating your argument altogether.
Finally, I near the end of your argument with the conclusion that you think that: "Audi do not do stripped down models because they want plushness and sportiness and that suits their philosophy, whereas BMW do stripped down models because their philosophy puts sportiness infront of plushness". Fair point and I can agree with this. But then you go and negate your entire argument by saying "The M3 CSL will have all the plushness of a M3, so there won't be any much difference between the M3 CSL and the M3 in terms of performance". So now your saying that there isn't a market for a stripped down version at all? Or are you simply trying make a fanboy statement that even if BMW create an M3 CSL, it won't beat any Audi RS model in terms of track times etc?
So in light of your comment made to Sunny:
Dude maybe your not up on cars as much as you claim!
I will be so bold as to say "Dude maybe your not up on the car industry as much as you claim!".
