It’s inoffensive/good looking but stirs nothing and just doesn’t move the needle in pics so far. The old car was Audi’s best looking sedan so it was kinda hard to top imo. The Avant was a bigger leap vs the previous generation imo.

Not ugly, not beautful, but its all been seeing in the last 15 years already, so particulary actually nothing really new.

I do like the hommage of the C5 rear tho, altough it can't top De Silva's rear end od the C5 - for me the C5 stays the most beautiful and timeless A6 (for me even more then the C4).

Its bad if it takes inspiration from old designs, its bad if it totally neglected them… people are never satisfied…

The C5 was a far greater departure from the design of the C4 than is the case regarding the new C9 versus the C8. Actually, that mid-to-late 1990s Audi era of the B5 A4, C5 A6 and D2 A8 was one that did not represent the "same sausage" uniformity of exterior design. And especially the C5 A6 was distinctively different. For me a "grower", which I initially did not care for-but my appreciation grew steadily. Especially pertaining to the blistered wheelarch S6 and RS6 models.

I agree, C8 had better proportions and shorter overhangs. The wheelbase is the same as the C8 but the extended front overhang gives it this weird hunch/overbite on the hood like some ugly whale. Reminds me of the funky proportions on current Lexus models with the spindle.

Front overhang has only increase .7 inches from 36.2" to 36.9" however combined with the less upright nose and droopier grille (missing a lower step grille too), it definitely gives the illusion of a longer front overhang. Either way, not great.

Of the "Three Germans", the G60/61 BMW 5er presents the clearest departure from the design of its G30/31 predecessor. The W/S214 E-Class is far more evolutionary and the same can be said for the C9 A6.
All matter of personal taste at the end of the day.
