Q6 2024 Audi Q6 E-Tron

Wasn't Licht promising the world for Audi design?

What's Frascellas background and what are his notable projects?

Lichte's e-Tron designs have been stale. His "Prologue" design language translated very mediocre into the flagship A8 and the other models, minus the stunning A6/S6/RS 6.

But I'm very excited for the B10 A5 as I think that will be a very good looking car despite the common opinion that it looks too "hyundai".

Frascella designed the Discovery, Velar and new Defender being at JLR for nearly 10 years.

So he has my vote of confidence.
I don't understand how brands (LR) let go of talents who have just given them a vehicle that is not only exceptionally attractive, brought from the past to the future (very difficult to do) and that is also a sales success.

Thanks mate. Design department insights like this fascinate me but I don't really know where, nor have the time, to read more into it.

I've also been very curious about what R Lesnik has been up to over at Mercedes. He was given quite the grand welcome having the final hand in the W222 design, even though most of it was completed by the younger Korean designer.

Maybe we should have a thread dedicated to design where we can note designers responsible for certain models, movements between design departments, announcements of new 'design languages' (Audi seems to have had enough to write a book by itself) etc. It would be fascinating reading IMO.

Agreed. I'm VERY into car design so I love getting all the background on these designs and getting to see the design proposals and whatnot.

Carmaker1, who for some reason I can't tag, had amazing insight into design history of several models. He hasn't been active on these forums for quite some time unfortunately.

Last I spoke with him was on Lexus Enthusiast forum over a year ago, he was sharing some design proposals that weren't shown before!

I love his insight whenever he's around, unfortunately seems he's logged off for the time being, hope he comes back soon

Sat inside the Q6 and SQ6 etron some weeks ago. Very disappointing interior, even worse in real-life than the photos. The materiales used is cheap many places, specially the upper part of the door sides, where they use almost-hard plastic. Even the QS6, which should be better equipped, used this same cheap plastic.

Got our first new Q6 e-Tron in....

Interior:
Pros
- New interior design is nice in person
- New MMI is actually quick and responsive, not laggy and slow like current MMI
- Construction quality is solid and no creaks when pressing on surfaces
- AC is easy to access despite being in the screen

Cons
- Hard plastic on lower door panels (our marketing tells us it's for weight saving 🙄 obv not)
- key looks cheap AF
- piano black on center console (but current B9.5 all have it too)
- Passenger display why?

Exterior:
Pros
- It's familiar for existing Audi owners
- Conservatively styled and not too polarizing

Cons
- It's familiar for existing Audi owners
- looks tired and stale, like it's been on sale for 5 years
- Doesn't move the bar for Audi design, unlike the attractive B10 A5 and B10 Q5.

That being said, S-Line with 21" wheels does look MUCH better judging by online photos.

TL;DR: Interior is a welcomed change, exterior needs work.

Audi hates the US market, so naturally you can't get S Line package NOR a black grille NOR 21" wheels on the Q6.

What I sent is a fully loaded Q6.. and it looks so cheap.

Hopefully they make changes and bring those options for MY26

Audi hates the US market

Ha...is that true ? I do recall a time back in the late 1980s through mid 1990s in which key Audi personnel harboured some hard feelings regarding the U.S. market. Back then, we had the " Audi 5000 unintended sudden acceleration scandal" that seriously wounded the integrity of the brand. And it is said the Ferdinand Piech was never the biggest fan of the U.S. or Americans in general. Things turned around somewhat when the Audi 200 TransAm and Audi 90 IMSA GTO racers began to dominate the series and the B5 A4 became quite a hit in the U.S.
As for today, Audi will need to firmly anchor a strong presence in the North American market. It may become its most important one in the not too distant future. China is looking more than dodgy. And the EU increasingly less affluent.

A lot of their decisions in model launches, lack of options/personalization, etc certainly makes me feel that way. Not to mention the uncompetitive leasing programs for majority of these cars, despite their age.

I have a friend shopping for the Q6 and he was complaining about how you can't pair massaging seats with ventilated seats no matter whether you pick the Q6 or SQ6. You can only get one or the other. Just bizarre.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
