Well, in a forum that intends its members to debate about upcoming cars, taking so seriously the opinion of someone who disagrees with you can only cause you frustration.

As can be seen here. ;)

Indeed, some people come to debate and provide a justified opinion based on arguments to which you can agree or disagree. Unfortunately there are those whose only goal is to derail. Like you.

Derail? Seriously? Lol... We both made a point on the car render which is much more related to the thread than your irritation of spelling mistakes which are just childish when you can’t make a proper counter argument....

I think that Sky is man (or woman) enough to debate so perhaps you should keep yourself out of this discussion.

It’s quite surprising that I even need to remind you that I can do what I want... but it’s cute, thanks for the concern ;)

Not saying this about yuc4life, but I would not be surprissed if stuff lile this is somehow rediscovered by the most inconditional fans to try to justify the departure from BMW's traditional design language and the adoption of certain elements of cheaper brands.

Precedents exist for certain elements in concepts, sketches and previous models - it's abundantly clear that BMW have had some of this stuff in their heads for a while, and for whatever reason elected not to run with it on a production model. You don't have to be an unconditional fan of the brand on the defence to see it - merely someone that's familiar enough with such examples to recall them easily, or at least as easily as existing models from other manufacturers that also have them. Some of these elements have been on the drawing board since the mid-2000's, it remains to be seen how the latest interpretations will play out, but I for one am sad they've left it this long before bringing something new to their design language because during that time I feel many of their designs have gotten weaker.

The fact you lean straightaway to that "cheaper" aspect underlines how often this entire "it looks like a [cheaper brand] ..." dialogue we get with most new cars is simple intended as a way to criticise without actually saying anything useful about the design. Apart from anything, that disrespects the fact that 'lesser' brands often come up with good designs, and a lot stuff we like is pretty derivative if you take the time to break it down - which most people don't if they're not trying to make a negative comment about it on the internet.

edit: Sorry, I meant to include this...

.. we never saw it uncovred, but it's clear many elements were kept in mind.

Well thank you. I wrote a whole incoherent essay but your summary is far better.
I just wanted to add it's simply way too early to discuss the X8 or 7er's supposed split headlights, let alone criticise them.

And really, design is design, no matter who makes it, good or bad. There is no lesser design because the brand is seen as not as good. That's just simply idiotic. A beautiful design can house something horrible (Peugeot 406 coupe), or a terrible design can house something wonderful (PS5).
Not to mention every design thingy for cars has been done already. Everything is either a combination of elements or a slightly altered version of something we've already seen. It's all cheap shapeable plastic that can be molded in every thinkable form imaginable by highly advanced machines. The days of company X being able to design and mass produce shape Y and company Z not being able to do that are long past.

I personally love how BMW is trying out new stuff w their designs because it keeps me interested with their future products and I’m constantly looking for spy shots, leaks etc. Sure they could’ve gone with their traditional designs and fans would love them, but as we’ve seen with Mercedes and Audi as well, their designs start to get boring and uninspiring, because each new generation looks almost the same. They don’t add enough to the design imo. Just look at the Audi A6 for ex. It looks totally same with the outgoing one. But that said, it doesn’t mean I love and support every new BMW design. I found the new iX to be horrible looking and I still can’t get used to that weird alien looking face it has. Same goes with the new 4 series as well. I just can’t unsee that creepy smiley face it has with M Sport bumpers. So I think we should just stop complaining about the way they’ve chosen with their designs, because there’s literally nothing we can do about it. And it’s just a silly render that I just made, it’s not a big deal. Please chill guys. We all should go back to sharing our passion w cars not negativity. (Hope I wrote things in the right way btw. English is not my native language so there might be some wrongly pronounced words.)

Well, IMO the lesser brands reference makes sense. Why do brands like Citroen, Skoda, Mitsubishi and so on need to go for the bolder route? Cause no one would go for their products if not for price reasons. While certain designs of brands like Hyundai (just look at what the new Tucson front end looks like, or the upcoming Ioniq 5) look bold and innovative, they are certainly not the best design reference IMO. Nor are those design the ones that will age well.

I do understand the cyclical nature of design in the auto industry. We have bolder times, with innovative designs (Bangle), and some others with a more conservative approach (Van Hooydonk). While I have enjoyed more the latter, at least speaking about BMW, what Bangle did could not be seen on any other brand before. Which deserved a lot of credit IMO.

I want to think I would not be as critic with what seems to be coming from BMW if the design ideas were ground braking and a first in the industry.

What a load of Bull!
it is highly important the way a car looks, some people use the design as the only criteria when they buy a car.
why do you think these companies plow down money into design ?
Even bmw with their f#cked up designs are trying to make an statement.
This isn’t a f#cking drilling machine on sale where no one cares about the way it looks just about it’s ability to drill a hole.

leave it up to bmw fans to justify any bullshit they come up with in Munich. Jesus

Best just to ignore LaArtsit. In time you 'll come to learn that he shits on everything BMW just because it's BMW. Everyone in the BMW threads just ignores him and his cronies.
He will learn.

but instagram is messy garbage, and as someone who prefers to browse on a desktop, why they limit images to 600px wide is beyond me.

I browse instagram on desktop as well. Photos are not limited to 600px, maybe they are only displayed in said size, the current max width is 1080px with a max height of 1350px. They could increase the size but then most people browsing on their phone would not notice the difference.

Yeah, I have "F12'd" instagram before to get to higher res pictures, it's just a pain. The links are in the page source for higher res images, there's no reason why the app/site couldn't detect your system resolution and show the most appropriate one.
