F1 2019 Formula 1 Season thread

First indications of fatigue ? Sebastian Vettel has placed a question mark over his future beyond the 2020 F1 season. In a brief published interview yesterday, he alluded to the sport becoming "increasingly "show" and "too regulated". He is also apprehensive regarding more sweeping changes as of the 2021 season.
This harkens back to the 2014 season. And as mentioned earlier, perhaps his heart and mind simply are no longer into the sport to the degree necessary. Obviously, this could diminish the hype now embracing Leclerc. Dominating a teammate who can lay claim to being a consecutive 4X WDC ("been there, done that) and is simply no longer totally committed may not be the most difficult task at hand after all.

Leclerc versus Verstappen...in cars equal...now THAT would be truly exciting.

He joined recently and I don't know how he scored but as far as I know he's not the most talented driver (reaction, input precision, eyes, feel, instinct, etc.), but he's a very hard, methodical worker and makes the lack of talent up with that.

I do recall that Michael Schumacher was also not the most highly rated driver prior to his entry into F1. We saw where THAT went. Not that Mick is necessarily Michael, mind you.

I have been thinking... With the change in rule for 2021, grid positions could change once again. But what if the current tren continues and Ferrari and MB keep dominating? With the potential of a strong Leclerc in Ferrari, and a 36 year old Hamilton still in MB, would Verstappen consider a move to MB? With Hamilton that old, it might be a safer bet than R...

If Mercedes remains a title contender going forwards, it will dead easy for them to get almost any driver on the grid to release themselves from their contract. Verstappen would join in an heart beat but after the Hamilton vs Rosberg tensions, Mercedes are unlikely in a rush to ignite another internal battle.

Their other option is a George Russell who is currently at Williams. He is a very promising young driver and I rate him as Bottas most likely replacement.

It would make sense as well. It would certainly be a softer transition. But Russel has still everything to prove. With Leclerc in Ferrari, and Mick in pipeline, Ferrari seems a more unlikely destination for Max.

I believe there is a risk Max remains trapped at RB.

You dislike for Mad Max is in plain sight. I think Mad Max will get better as he gets older.

...and many will argue that young Max is already the second best driver on the current grid behind Lewis Hamilton.

Rumors say that Vettel has asked to change chassis (the current one is perfectly fine) for the next race...he's starting to see ghosts. He's not a Schumacher where he will meticulously work to bring a car from 0 to 100. He's a guy that needs a perfect car, be the undisputed number 1 driver, and attack with it. That's not the case in Ferrari at the moment even though they def have the best car.

Vettel should go back to his other career as a Particle Physicist -

:D. The resemblance is striking!!

ps. Brilliant lecture/series.

Source is confidential but the FDA (Ferrari Driver Academy) does a ton of simulator testing at Allinsports and Charles has scored incredibly high. Consistently the highest by a tight, but in F1 significant, margin. Add to that his extraordinary mental capability and you have the complete driver. I believe that he already is one of the best and...

He's have to be pretty special to be better than Jim Clark, so far nobody has come within spitting distance of his talent.

It seems both Vettel and Hamilton have left the door open to them leaving F1 after 2020. With Vettel I see it more clear, with Hamilton I believe he suspects in 2021 MB won't have the best car anymore.

Given that Schumi’s records are beatable for either driver, I doubt they will quit at the end of the 2020 season.

It seems MB is keeping an eye on Max for 2021 in case Hamilton does leave:

Mercedes keeping tabs on Verstappen… just in case

I am surprissed to see how far was Ferrari.

This year is clearly subverting expectations...

Lol beautiful race by Mercedes total dominance. 3 races 3 1-2s

I f#cking hate vettel and Ferrari though, I feel so bad for Charles, they f#cked him over totally. Why tf don’t they let them race at least to the end and do the swap then (IMO they shouldn’t even do the swap this early in the season)? That wouldn’t put Charles behind max.

Pathetic behavior, but it’s perfect for Mercedes.
If they have this internal situation they can’t get to terms with, just gives Mercedes a chance to pull away like today.

Also I hope this alienates Charles to the point that he one day joins Mercedes lol!

3 races, 3 team orders for Leclerc, that's why I hate Ferrari.
That is their way to put Vettel in front of Leclerc.
Only in Bahrein Leclerc didn't obey.
Today Leclerc would be in front of Vettel about 7 points ( at least, in general ), but because of Ferrari he is behind 1 point.
Shame for Leclerc, shame on you Ferrari, how they could even call themselves racing team, because racing is forbidden in their team.
But anyway, that's good for Mercedes.
As long as Ferrari is poor racing team, Mercedes dont need to worry.
They can't even keep 3-4, instead of they make 3-5 from 3-4, sad team really.
They always mess up, always.
