A-Class (W177) 2018 Mercedes-Benz A-Class spy shots and rumors

The W177 hatchback was launched in 2018 as the successor to the W176 Mercedes-Benz A-Class. It is available as a 5-door hatchback (W177 model code), 4-door sedan (V177), and a long-wheelbase sedan exclusive to China (Z177).

The world in three words. MB uses innovative address system

A new coordinate system organises the world: founded in 2013, what3words assigns three words to every point on Earth, making locations easily and unambiguously identifiable – even where there are no addresses. Mercedes-Benz will be the first automotive manufacturer to use the new address system.
[...
Is this system going to be in cars from 2018 onwards ? If not will it be possible for cars to receive this update in the future?

^ MB Passion answered this for you. :)

"Unlikely. The new A-Class has MBUX - so far called NTG 6, which the CLS/E will not yet receive. An update to the "new destination input function" is not expected here." "Perhaps further out in the future, though. We'll have to wait and see."

2019 Mercedes A-Class and CLS Spotted in Germany, Look Very Similar
Wondering what the next S-Class will look like? Probably a little bit like this, because even though the A-Class and CLS-Class are from entirely different segments, their front ends are identical for the 2019 model year.

There's this weird thing the designers are doing with the headlights, which are like long triangles pointing upwards towards the door mirrors. The easiest way to describe them is cartoon references, a mix between the eyes of Disney's Mulan and the brows from Angry Birds.

But it's not just the headlights; the grille design is shared between the two cars. As for the intakes in the bumpers, they are starting to remind us of the outgoing A-Class mid-life facelift. Inside, both cars will have the panoramic screen configuration (not as standard in the hatch).

As a fan of hatchbacks and wagons, I think the back of the 2019 A-Class looks a little better. Many people have said the trunk design of the new CLS is a bit undercooked, which is also true about the E63 S sedan, but not the wagon version. So if you want a sexy Mercedes rump, it's got to have a hatch opening.

While the 3rd generation CLS-Class was recently revealed at the LA Auto Show, we're still waiting to see the W177 A-Class. It's going to be built on an updated version of the MFA platform and powered by several new engines.

Renault gave us a sneak peak of that with its 1.3-liter turbo, producing from 115 to 160 HP. Mercedes, meanwhile, is probably developing its 2-liter diesel to work in this transversal configuration. While the big story is still the 400+ horsepower A45, we're also excited about the A35.

It's going to have somewhere around 300 ponies and will offer more affordable hot hatch thrills. Well... affordable by Mercedes standards. But still, it's the cheapest AMG ever.

Jeez... Who the heck greenlighted the CLS having the same front end the A-Class has?
Unfortunately, an issue we have to live with..however the new A does seem a little different with the lights stretched out differently for example.

The differences are simply not enough. How is it a good idea to have a car costing 3 times more expensive sharing the same front end design as the A class hatch and sedan??

Yes, seems two families are emerging? The "S - E - C", and the GT - GT 4 door/CLS - A/CLA? :)

On Feb 2 we may find out more, as the new A will be unveiled then. Today Gorden Wagener took us into the P ONE. :)

A 35 AMG with "twin=blade" grille

It's a shame that the front of the A and CLS are essentially identical. Certainly on a different level, at least, from the past "same sausage, different lengths" design language of Mercedes or Audi. At least those design philososphies made some effort at minimum differentiation.

I remember even a generation ago when Mercedes had fairly different designs from model to model, to the point where each model (or at least the C,E, and S) had different steering wheels. As a Mercedes enthusiast and forum member, it was much more exciting, IMO, to follow along with spy shots and news because it felt like I was witnessing the development of something new every time. It seems unrealistic that we will ever return to that kind of differentiation again.

Purchasing essentially the same headlight/front cladding from suppliers is surely cost-efficient, and I doubt most consumers may ever care. At least the new designs do look good, IMO.

Bang on my friend, being a Mercedes fan myself, it is pretty disgraceful to see this russian doll approach but I guess it's an unfortunate reality of today's somewhat mundane approach to design strategies..plus you're right, in the past there was always very high anticipation for a new model like the W212 etc but now it is all too predictable..

The last picture shows the two 7" screens. God thats hideous! :arghh:
Whoever buys the new A-Class: please go Widescreen.

Don't count on it. The A-Class is an entry level cars and tens of thousands of first time Merc buyers will order it with minimal options.

Things looking positive for this next gen A-class, I think Mercedes have listened to all the critisms of the current model and try and bring this model in line with the way other Mercedes drive but with a sporty edge to it as well.
