Believe it or not, the launch of the W124 in fall 1984 was far more problematic than that of the W201 some 2 years prior to it. Drivetrain "buck and yaw" (aka "Bonanza-Effekt") plagued early W124s' . This resulted in large protests by disgruntled taxi service proprietors culminating in a convoy of many hundreds of W124 taxicabs from all over Europe and as far as The Middle East that converged on Daimler-Benz headquarters in Stuttgart-Untertürkheim. A massive recall program ensued. It wasn't until the MY 1988 facelift upon which the W124 became a genuinely good automobile. And even following that, the first il 6 cylinder 24 valve powerplants introduced in 1992 were not the most durable of engines. Rust issues plagued the W124/S124 in the first 4 years of its' model run.

I remember that, Dr Neifer drove a 230E and came back with "yes, its not what it should be, we will fix it" as a result of that outcry by the masses....back to the new A-Class, yeah nice and all that. I'll wait till I see the car in the flesh before I get too excited.

With Renault 1.4 TCe inside it will be nice.

About proportions. It's just awful with this long snout. IMO, BMW did their first excursion into FWD waters much better. I'm expecting from 2 GC to be much nicer than Mercedes products.

From Autocar article it sounds promising especially the new interior and the new communications so it will be the first MB touch screen based as well as a new version of command seems MB are going full throttle for this young market Or entry for new customers to the Mercedes Brand ...

I was hoping That a electric or a hybrid version of A class would also be launched seems not so...

Also in the video above it's looking very good.

Mild hybrid is still a hybrid or no? Even AMG will be mild hybrid this time, with electric turbo.

It's about time. While Command has beautiful graphics and great hardware navigation can be a bit clunky. If a touch screen can encourage Mercedes to rethink and simplify then I'm all for it.

this is it : the new A-CLASS. Mercedes is taking the compact class on to another level.
No analog tachos anymore, just digital. First time in this class: cooling seats and massage seats. Love the car!

Wow that's a pleasant surprise by Mercedes ..looks very good and definitely very very big improvement from the current one...That's a very good job by MB.

Obviously this is the top end I am sure the other ones will look less exciting but it's a giant leap forward compared to the current one..

I am sure they have improved the quality ..

Is it a touch screen If I remember reading somewhere the screens were touch ?

Well done .

Astra K already has (even though it is not premium, but same class) massage seats and seats cooling. I think that even i30 has ventilated seats?
Interior is not ugly, but It will have to grow on me.

btw so this is death to scrolling wheel for infotainment in Mercedes. There is only that touchpad that is left, but I don't predict long life for it.
