SL-Class 2017 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Facelift

The Mercedes-Benz SL-Class (marketed as Mercedes-AMG SL since 2022) is a grand touring roadster manufactured by Mercedes-Benz since 1954.
I can't wait until he signs off on the next generation SL.

They haven't had an overhang anywhere near as long as this one has. Long bonnet has nothing to do with what I'm talking about.

M

They had not have such a big overhang also because they were smaller but from some angles the overhang looks huge.

Just for comparison

Yes, theres a bit more overhang. But stylistically its been disguised better in the past generations.
I've put it down to the grille shape the just doesn't seem to fit.
Flip the grille the opposite way, pull the lower edge of the headlights to match the contours of the grille (like the S-Class coupe). Add some satin finish to the lower intake.

  • I stand by my earlier post.

Like many german cars, it looks better in real life than bizarre photoshopped press pics. And quite frankly, Wagener and his team did yoeman's work getting this thing to resemble a modern, respectable MB. I will put down my torch and pitchfork and stop trying to light it on fire and simply wait for it to be quietly euthanized.

That shot with the S-Cab shows the real problem. Who in their right mind would EVER pick an SL over that beauty? It's not like the SL is particularly sporty. It has to be someone who despises canvas tops and can't stand the idea of having more than one friend ride with them.

The SL is a more dynamic drive than the S-class coupe though. The S-class is a very big boy and a pure tourer.

at times i think the SL line will disappear someday.
luxury GT - go for S coupe (R129 is a four seater!)
Sport GT - AMG GT

just brainstorming :t-hihi:

Uh oh, just when you thought your mind was made up about this car lol!!!

Almost Mercedes, almost... Every video/write up I've seen on this new version is positive now. Maybe it looks a lot better in person. That would be sooo nice if true.

^^^ Yeah that looks good. I can't wait to see it in January.

Agreed. I am almost embarrassed to like it this much after laughing at a few of the details.

The R231 SL really does not appear to have an issue with a big overhang. The area behind the
center of the front wheel is about equal to the area ahead of that center. The face- lift does have a tad more but it does not appear to be a big issue. The grill is more upright with a more shark like profile. I have warmed up to the live photos a little. I still do not like the AMG treatment from head on though. It looks like something that belongs on a $40,000 sports car imo.

Here is the pic right here. If they released this as the first pic we all would have fell for it right from the start. Things are starting to change here.

Moral of the story? Do not underestimate the current Mercedes design team!

Talk about a talented group of people man. Wait now for the E-Class and the C Cabrio models. I'll be in new Benz (for the first time) by 2017 if they keep this up.
