SL-Class 2017 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Facelift

The Mercedes-Benz SL-Class (marketed as Mercedes-AMG SL since 2022) is a grand touring roadster manufactured by Mercedes-Benz since 1954.
The black colour will hide all the ugly details in front bumper. The only colour that make the SL looks better.

The full coloured standard bumper looks miles better than the AMG one!

I'm surprised to say that with the colour coded bumper it actually looks good.

And dare I say, that I actually like the interior. It's got the old tectonic feel of the previous generation Merc models.

That blue one actually looks really good, front bumper air intakes look less awkward and the interior looks nice still even though the center console looks dated compared to the latest models.

A Sports and Light (SL) car?! Sure!

But how? Twofold.

@Z4ever What is Mercedes without luxury, comfort? Imagine if 4C was Mercedes, even though it's a good sports car, it is too spartan, too harsh car to have Mercedes badge.

Sure, just don't call it SL (Sport Licht).

SL AMG?! Really?

What's the point? Ok, I know... cruising in great style. But then again, the style is not so great!

This car really confuses me.

I don't think they really advertise it as 'sporty leicht' anymore. None of them were ever particularly light anyway (perhaps the W113) it's a luxurious roadster. Mercedes-Benz was always a luxury brand more than a sports brand. It's not a surprise that their top model roadster is geared more towards luxury and comfort. The SL name has history, they're not going to rename it FLR (fat luxury roadster)

Exactly. 'SL' as actually one of the longest, if not the longest, running automotive nomenclature

The AMG GT looks more like an SL than the SL. It actually interprets the original GullWing in its outline. When are they taking the roof off?

LOL!

Of course not! But Mercedes SLR sounds just right ('Schwere Luxus-Roadster').

On the other hand, just imagine how ridiculous an Alfa 4LC would sound ('Quattro Lusso e Comfort').

Any Daimler high ups are reading this, I have one thing to say....Don't do to the SLC (nee SLK) that you have done to the SL.

These cars are a lost cause guys. I won't even bother looking at them until the new ones come in a few years.

This is SL is an insult to the moniquer and the good taster as a whole.

It's a shame....it's a well-engineered car that handles and performs well, especially the SL63. It's a shame that the exterior and interior are lacking. At that pricepoint though, I'd rather go for the S-Coupe though.

I don't think it will remain for 4 years. MB is acutely aware that while it has been on the market for 3-3.5 years only, the market introduction was delayed by 2 years due to engineering issues. Essentially the car is already 5 years old.

I would be that in face of such slow sales for the SL, that they've sped up the development of the next generation SL and SLC. I think I read where the SL and SLC will get their own platform which should dramatically improve their driving character. I know with the current design team in place the SL, the SUVs and the SLC will be great. Now that the GLS and SL have been presented, it is time for the big shit reveal, the E_Class. I'm going to just die if the next E-Class lineup is a hit like the S-Class lineup is. That C Convertible is crucial too.
