SL-Class 2017 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Facelift

The Mercedes-Benz SL-Class (marketed as Mercedes-AMG SL since 2022) is a grand touring roadster manufactured by Mercedes-Benz since 1954.
Styling alone won't do it though, as F-type sales have proved.
Perhaps Mercedes can create a proper Ferrari Portofino rival. As for the F type, it doesn't have the final engineering refinement to justify its asking price.

I might be the only one who still loves the unmistakable SL.

Perfect for me.

With Mercedes engineering capability, a more modern and attractive design would bring back the SL mojo. The current car is good looking but less than all the previous ones and it is very familiar because the whole car resembles so much to the previous one. The interior is the same story, solid but nothing special design wise. The F-type, only in exterior design, is far superior.
Also with AMG GT, the SL is the odd man out. The GT is more modern inside and outside although it is also not as pretty as the F-Type IMO.

Saw this at my dealers as well. SL 400, price at $218k AUD drive away. It has not much showroom appeal when it shares the same floor space with the AMG GTS and GTC. However, people do buy them, I have seen 3 of them on the road, one being the SL 63 version. Apparently my dealer sold 4 of them so far this year.

I like the GT but the SL is probably easier to park and drive around, better visibility, less sporting seating position, more comfortable ride. I'd still buy one, even though the design isn't as good.

The GT beats you up on a long ride, plus the exhaust and transmission noises gets tiring after a certain distance, if you're just commuting. I also don't quite have enough room in the car with the seat all the way back and grazing the metal parcel bar.

Fantasic sport car, but the SL still has it's place in the lineup... they just have the next gen 1000% right to make up for the very lacklustre R231.

It will probably have the E-class dashboard. :ROFLMAO:

How long you could drive the GT before you start getting angry?

I know there is plenty of engine, exhaust and unfortunately road noise in this car, but transmission noises? LOL

Well I guess sako is referring to all the "pops 'n bangs" during up- and downshifts.

The pops and bangs are only on the overrun, when cruising on highway it should be more relaxed.
