You may find yourself crossed up in a luxury car, steering turned opposite the direction of the road, the remnants of tires following behind. And there may be a moment when, between the giggles, you find it strange that this kind of car exists. How would you classify these two? They started as luxury coupes -- something once intended to be well-appointed and comfortable -- but now they have more power, stiffer suspensions, and locking differentials so you can powerslide.

M4 / Lexus

0-60 4.0 4.3
0-90 7.4 8.4
0-100 8.9 10.2

In that Autocar video the BMW seems much more tail happy than the Lexus, but look at the front end of the Lexus when it shifts from one corner to the next, it seems to have more front roll, maybe it has softer dampers and springs in the front. The BMW suspension seems flat at both ends with no roll when doing direction changes from corner to corner. The BMW seems to lose more time than the Lexus when cornering as it has loads more oversteer, while the Lexus cornering state looks like slight understeer to mostly neutral and slight oversteer on some corners. The BMW makes up ground in the straights, it is convincingly faster than the Lexus. Interesting about Matt Prior's conclusion which he prefers.

Ok, I am not the one here to usually pick on Autocar, but I have a problem with how disingenuous they are being here. They make it sound like it is impossible to drive the M4 around a track with out drifting. But when you see the video, it is evident they are deliberately doing it. In many places in the video, you can clearly see the M4 driver doing the Scandinavian flick to induce a drift. Just look around 2:03, 3:05 and the most glaring one @ 3:24.

To his credit, Matt Prior (who I have a lot of respect for and whose 7.2 GT3 vs M3 GTS video I have probably watched more times than any another youtube video) does allude to it probably being the driver more than the car.
