Comparison tests 2014 Audi MT: RS5 vs. 2014 Mercedes Benz AMG C63 507 Edition

Cheap and low rent is a bit hyperbolic (I like that though) perhaps. But yea, the C coupe is not the best looking MB. The W204 sedan is a classic though. Facelift or not, the AMG is always hot........and fantastic fun to drive.

Maybe the low end part are the horrible El Cheapo rims..

Relative to the price and segment of course. Not cheap/low-rent IN GENERAL but for a $90k car, NOT hyperbolic at all IMO.

Then again, the RS5's dated dashboard and flimsily appointed control sections don't make for a particularly impressive interior either. A Q5 easily eclipses B8 models with its superior interior (primarily dashboard) quality. It's been discussed on this forum many times and agreed even with diehard Audi aficionados - this particular Audi interior was a step back from the quality normally delivered by the maker.

The Benz must have won the comparison otherwise there would be no need for dumb comments like it is a Korean like car in its build. Typical. Like the donor car for the Audi RS5, a FWD 4-cylinder A5 is the epitome of luxury to begin with.

RS5 got the looks but I think C63 is more intense and rewarding to drive, but I prefer 4-door version and not the C-coupé.

As far as looks are concerned, I prefer the pre-fl A5 to the facelifted one. That said, I have yet to see a C-Coupe in real life, before I can make my judgement.

What does its interior quality have to do with whether or not it won a comparison test? The interior quality of the current C-Coupe is terrible. No big deal. No need to defend it like it's your kin...

I thought so too. Like first 2 months after the facelift was presented. Now, I think the FL looks a billion times better.

Yea. Not that I started seeing more on the road and whatnot, I prefer the FL better too. They barely changed anything yet it looks much fresher and cleaner.

You mean like you do Audi? There is nothing terrible about the interior quality of the post 2012 C-Class. More stupid pro-Audi rhetoric.

The quality of the C-Class interior has nothing to do with the quality of Audi's interiors. I made no comparative mention of the two. You are simply sharing your opinion of the C-Class interior. And while I tend to agree with you at the $35k-$50k price point the car predominately operates in, I completely disagree at the level of the C63 507 and moreso Black Series like the one I drove last summer.

I went from a $120k C63 Black to a roughly $75k 981 Cayman S and the interior quality differences were astonishing. And it's not as though Porsche is known for their interior quality and refinement. I actually would liken the interior quality of the C-Class to something like my VW CC in terms of material quality and attention to detail. The build quality was better and the fit and finish was better, but nothing else.

Ok then we disagree. There is nothing cheap about a C-Class interior post facelift. Porsche has nothing to do this. I really don't care what you think about your VW.

Yup, the Q5 outclasses the A4/A5 when it comes to interior design and feeling.

And the interior stinks on this now old C-Class. I drove a C63 and Black Series last summer and while they were plenty of fun, when just driving like a sane person, the car felt utterly cheap. Identical, because it is, to a $35k C250 or something. Not what you would expect for an $80k-$120k car.

This is exactly why I rated S/RS Audi's so highly, driven at normal speeds the ones we all do 90% of the time they feel so much more special than most others. Though I must say the M5 feels bloody special even at town speeds.

And that is why I prefer the RS5 overall. Sure, the C63 might be more fun or have more character at the limit, the rest of the time, the RS5 is just a nicer car. More refined, better looking, more comfortable, better gas mileage, and with the added benefit of AWD. It is just a better all around car. Even if the C63 Coupe is better at 10/10 in FEEL alone...

I suppose its what you place your values on, though we definitely see eye to eye on this.

not if others have 6.2 v8 monster stuffed under the bonnet. no matter what the revs or speed theres no getting away from the feeling youre riding a dragon. youre gonna hear it, youre gonna feel it and you are going to respect it. a bit shitty interior spoils that just about as much as lets say lexus's interior compensates for general shittyness of the car.
come to think of it, probably even less than that.
unless of course you are a half drunk half naked girl just picked up in the bar in which case you probably will be better awed with audi's lights dash passenger seat leather quality and shape than benz's machinery.

See my thought on this is the opposite.

The difference between the 6.2 and 4.2L V8's in each of these cars is small. They both sound good and perform well but the RS5 returns better mileage while doing it. You are going to hear it, feel it, and respect it just the same.

HOWEVER, no matter if stopped at a light, parked in your driveway, cruising 80 on the freeway, the interior is inescapable. People often overlook the importance of a high quality and properly layed out interior as they can pilot a car without getting inside it...

You saw the performance in this test. They are nearly identical. The difference lies in the execution of the overall product...

I look for a jack of all trades in my cars. If I can get to a point in my life where I can have a fleet of cars, then maybe buying some that are more one-dimensional would make sense.

I need my car to perform equally well taking my kid to daycare as it does on my stop-and-go 30 mile commute to work, as it would on my favorite local backroad taking the long way home. And living in Michigan, it has to do this year-round.

The RS5 (and Audi RS in general) is unmatched in the market place in this way.

We all get so caught up in the exceptions. The 1/4 mile runs or the 60-0 braking or the lateral grip or the track performance. Things we might utilize 1% of our time with the car. TOPS. What about the other 99%? THAT is what I am more concerned about. The 0/10-9/10 of the car. NOT the 10/10...

Plus, for pure comparison sake, I think it is more difficult and thus more admirable when a company can make a car excel in so many areas. I don't find much 'achievement' in a car that does one thing perfect at the expense of all else. How good is a football team with an amazing kicker and a shitty offensive/defensive line? Or even an amazing QB but no one who can catch a ball...
