The proportions look very promising!

Looks wider, but also leaner than the current SL. Looks to have a more upright bold grill like the SLS. Makes sense.

Be pretty hard to mess up an SL.

Not sure on the SLS inspired grill. it was only suited to SLS kind of car, not sure whether it'll turn out OK on this. Afterall SLS has that "classic" shape while with this one we have a car with a normal modern shape, yet with such a grill, and surely it'll be swamped with lines like the E i would guess.

Seeing this mule and the R172's mule with its interior, I have a feeling the R172 will be retro styled closer to the SLS whereas the SL will be an uber-modern design, exterior and interior wise.

Does anyone else feel the same ?

Yes!

I agree that the new SL's interior and exterior will be uber-modern.

Mercedes can only go retro with low volume niche models.

Looks like the current car with new mirrors.....I hope to god they don't mess this car up.

M

You always seem to have a pessimistic attitude towards the new Mercedes models, as if they are almost total failures. It's no surprise to me you pray the SL will look good.:D

What about a bit of positive thinking?:usa7uh:

Then what can you tell us about this new SL, because it looks way too much like the current car. New grille and lights do not cut it, not if this new one is supposed to last for another decade.

^ batosai, it is still early to talk about the exterior design of the next SL-Class. As you may know, the looks of a model to be unveiled in 3-4 years can change several times;designers always face new challenges as time passes, and they really have to adjust the aesthetiques as to keep it fresh and interesting when it is revealed. So, what you see at the moment(very little though, because of the heavy camo) may differ pretty much from the final product.

3-4 years? No, no. The new SL comes out in 2011 in Europe. 2010 will see CLS first, then SLK. All three mules have been running on the streets for testing. There is NO WAY this SL is still 3-4 years away. Design should be fixed by now otherwise they won't be having mules with real lenses under the lights. How about checking with your sources ?

And, this mule won't have different windowlines/roof/proportions from the final product.
