It's just a chassis mule guys, the body panels (although covered up) are from the current SL, so let's talk about proportions just yet. :D

No. Look closer. The doors are new and the shoulder line is lower and curved differently from the current one. And overall proportions can already be viewed from this mule. The only parts covered are the front and rear sections' details, but we can already see the shape of the new car.

I didn't say ALL the body panels are the same. Many are the same, and many are different, thus me saying that you can't tell about proportions yet because of mismatching (ie to throw you off) body panels. Jeez.

Well, I'm telling you we can already tell its proportions. The height of the car won't change. The slightly angular roofline of the hardtop won't change. The width of the car won't change. The window glass shapes won't change. The A-pillars won't change. The doors won't change.

The things still covered such as grille, headlights, rearlights won't even change the proportions.

One can already use their imagination to get the proportions of the car. "Jeez".

My favorite Mercedes benz :0vr: I'm not even ready to say goodbye to the current sl! It's the hottest car on sale today :)

seems to be there bigger space in the cabin, I think they are returning to 2+2 setting.

Probably not as it would compromise the packaging too much. The wheelbase would have to be so long and the roof would be too elongated to look good (like the current BMW 3-series convertible).

Also, Mercedes has the CLS for the 2+2+a-little-more segment. While I'm on the CLS, I am going to be so disappointed with Mercedes if the CLS has the same dashboard as the E Class.

It seems the SL will follow a similar design evolution in comparison to its precedessor as the new CLS is to the current, i.e. grille and wraparound rear lights. Design still too soft for my expectations, but then again so did the current car when it first debuted in 2001

The emergence of spy pictures of any SL or S is a major milestone. In fact, I had been wondering when the next SL would emerge.

Autobild.de has not the pictures yet, I´m pretty sure they are going to put a render of the SL in tomorrow´s mag cover.

I hope Mercedes knows what they're doing with this most important of Mercedes-Benz models. Goofy this up and I'm going to have to question everything new coming down the road.

Is it me or is Mercedes working on nearly everything in their lineup? Lets see, the CL, SL, CLS, SLK, R, ML, SLC, C-facelift and C Coupe are all being refreshed/re-designed for release within the next 12-24 months. Seems like a lot to me.

Agreed. And don't forget the A/B class, too.

Those aren't real Mercs. Plus we dont get them in the US.

Anyways, while we're at it include the SLS cab. :D

Reminds me of the planets aligning in 2012... because this amount of cars never seem to be tested at the same time for any auto manufacturer. I'm seeing a trend here hopefully the planet lasts long enough for us to see them. :D

OOT about the Mayans, if they could accurately predict the end of the planet then they would have at least stay exist in today's civilization. I guess they never saw their own end coming.

Car's covered with plastic cladding so we cannot see anything. The front overhang is made way bigger by two things:

- the front will be pointy. Here, it's not because of the cladding, so the front overhang appears enormous.
-the bonnet is covered with heavy cladding, making the front massive, too massive, making the impression of a small wheel lost in metal.

The only thing we can clearly see is the winfow/roofline. Apart from that, everything is plastic cladding over the panels.

Yep. The MB forum will likely be very active in the coming time. Lot's of new models coming!

I hope they can somehow fix the R-class. It's nice..but just needs a LOT of redesign. If there is any car in the MB lineup that needs a COMPLETE makeover, it's the R-class.

Well, a major facelift is due at Detroit, so maybe it'll "beautify" the R a little bit.
